Wine red is the darkest red in our collection: even a shade or two darker than straight henna, few to no brown undertones, it’s pure deep red. Similar to red wine or a maraschino cherry. A deep intense color.
Perfect for:
• adding deep red hues to dark brown and black hair (more subtle undertones on black hair)
• drastic change from blonde, light brown, or medium brown to a vibrant deep red
+ suitable for all hair types, textures, etc.
1 packet (3.5 oz/100g) will dye hair to shoulder.
3 packets (10.5 oz/300g) will dye hair to waist.
Note: hair thickness and type (straight, curly, etc) will make a difference.
For super thick curly hair, order an extra packet.
Ex: Super Thick Curly Hair to Shoulder, Order 2 Packets.
The henna binds right to the hair shaft, and becomes one with your natural color and highlights. Then the added herbs and natural treatments combine to darken down the shade by a couple notches and bring it to a dark passionate wine red. It’s very bold & super lovely.

Worth every penny. I left it in for 3 hours and wrapped my hair in two plastics as well as put a beanie on to keep the henna moist. It took a long time to rinse out but once the whole process was over the color came out phenomenal! My new go to hair dye.

Omg I have been looking in USA for this kind of product and result for over 40 years .
I used to buy similar one in france .
And in the USA i only found henna from India and I had to redo my roots twice because they were so orange color on my withe hair ,
And the burgandy or Monagony colors were too orange .
Your color henna is so strong . Like the picture .
I am so happy , follow the directions , they are a little different than other henna .
My hair are so soft and so shiny and vibrant deep color .i can wait for the next time , it will be a little bit darker .
I am 79 years old , I have beautiful quality hair thanks to henna .
My daughter will use the brown one .

I have dark brown hair so I was amazed by how vibrant the color was. Yes, it was a dark red but it was still bold. A few slight issues, though: I used this about 5 months ago if I recall correctly and it left me with copper-toned hair after maybe 3 months, not a horrible color but not desirable. Also for about a month and a half after dying my hair it was still washing out orange and, especially in the first month, it’d leave my nails orange. My fingers were also orange-tinted for a couple of days after applying, even though I wore gloves. Overall it’s a good color and I love that it’s natural. Just be aware of the fact it may stain your hair a funny shade after a few months. Also, be warned it is like putting thick mud on your hair which is an interesting sensation and it tangles it some.
PS: My time line for things may not be accurate as my memory stinks lol.

I used this to dye my hair with henna for the first time and the results are gorgeous! I bought it in a kit and did the herbal treatment a week before. It took awhile to rinse out (~ 20 mins) and I tried a previous commenter’s advice to use the charcoal conditioner both same day and for the next few washes so bleeding has been pretty minimal. My very thin, fine hair is incredibly soft, shiny, and bouncy. The color kept getting deeper and more vibrant for days. I went from medium brown hair to a deep auburn color. I could not be happier!
Liz –
This gave me an amazing red color! I was so nervous since I hadn’t used henna before. It stuck to my natural light brown roots as well as the bleach blonde I had. I accidentally shampooed after the 2 hours (grabbed the wrong bottle), but it still came out extremely vibrant. I am so happy with this process and plan to buy plenty more!

I love this product and agree with all the lovely things said in the other five star reviews, HOWEVER, I wish someone had warned me about how badly it stains the skin. I’ve used Henna Color Lab’s regular 100% henna without a problem, but decided to give a new color a try. Glad I did; it’s a gorgeous color. But my scalp got stained sooo badly and you could see stains around my face despite using Vaseline. It took a few days before I felt ready for public, lol. I avoided washing my hair for a few days, as other reviews had suggested, so maybe I needed to just skip that and give my scalp a good scrubbing? Also, some henna got inside one of my gloves and stained two of my fingernails. They stayed orange for weeks. I had to keep them polished until they grew out and could be clipped off. And yes, I tried all the suggested tricks like scrubs of lemon juice and sugar, baking soda, etc. Skin will eventually exfoliate, but not nails. Given how intense the staining was for me, I’m surprised I didn’t see others mentioning this. (Admittedly, I didn’t read all the reviews.) Also, I’m very fair and i have dry skin, which could perhaps contribute? I’m now overdue for touching up my roots and find myself putting it off again and again to try to find time to allow for looking weird and hiding in my house, lol. I really do want to continue to use it.

First time trying Henna hair dye! I made a mess and managed to turn my paws orange a little bit but holy moly the results are fantastic and worth it!! Definitely how I will be dying my hair from now on. I have light brown hair and the deep red color came out phenomenal, absolutely no complaints.
CANDACE MARTINEZ –
I tried this color and let me tell you I was blown away. I was skeptical about trying, but I am a believer now. I had black hair when I used and the color was still so vibrant and beautiful!!
Amanda –
I liked it and used it twice. My hair is pretty dark, and I barely noticed a difference for the most part, BUT I have a ton of grey/white hair and those turned out a brilliant red. It really does transfer, though. Every single time I washed my hair, I leaked orange/red dye everywhere for probably around two months. I did not try the charcoal shampoo trick another reviewer suggested, but I think I’m going to stick with the natural black dye from now on!
Stephanie –
I’ve used this one for a while and i love it. Never had any issues with color bleeding. When i used it with just water, my hair would feel like straw after (not with the burgundy color tho). Adding a little vinegar with the water made all the difference. My hair is shiny & soft after treatment.
Riana –
I have verrrrrry dark 4b hair and the red STILL showed up and I loved it! Its not extremely noticeable, but I’m sure after about 2+ more uses you’ll be able to see the red without light pointing at my hair.
amber –
I’ve been using this hair dye for a while. I Love it, BUT as other people note, it bleeds red for weeks and stains everything.
BUT I FOUND THE SOLUTION!!!! If you buy their peppermint tea tree conditioner (the black stuff with activated charcoal) it all but eliminates the red bleed within two washes. It is magical!
Julianna –
This is my second time using their hair dye and I love it! I have natural thick brown hair and the wine red turned my hair a vibrant red. I look like Ariel lol. Even after a few washes, my hair still feels incredible.
gayatrik97 –
I have dark hair and have been using henna approximately twice a year for the past 3-4 years from different shops. This is my first time using Henna Color Lab and the first time I’ve actually seen a noticeable GORGEOUS difference in my hair color and texture. The red color difference is astounding and I’m so excited to purchase this again! My hair is so healthy and vibrant!
caliroll83 –
Love this stuff. Yes, it bleeds… but even with salon red hair dye, it bleeds. This product makes my hair look amazing and feel healthier, it makes my scalp SO much happier. I was hesitant to try it at first because I’m allergic to almost everything. I did a patch test and no reaction. So it was wonderful for someone who is allergic to trees, grasses, weeds, animals, molds, foods, and chemicals… seriously… allergic to almost everything. And the color… to dye for… yes, pun intended.
Liya Wegayehu –
I was excited to have found a natural alternative to color my hair. However, the amount of transfer I got from this henna has discouraged me from ever trying henna again. My pillows, shirt collars, couch headrests are all stained with henna. Every time I touch my hair I find transfer on my hands. I can’t understand why this is happening but I’m very disappointed.
Maria –
I am amazed at how perfect my color turned out. I have always wanted to use henna color for it’s natural benefits but my first experience with another product didn’t work out at all. I am so ecstatic with the results I got with your wine red. It looks gorgeous and feels wonderful!
Madison –
First time dying my hair and wanted to use henna and this was exactly the wine red I’ve always wanted. It’s so beautiful and the red in the sunlight is outstanding. It does not fade either, I’ve had my hair dyed for 3 months and it’s the same color as the day I dyed it! My hair was so soft and conditioned from the henna too. BUT!The dye has not stopped bleeding in the shower since day one, so I definitely recommend doing this during fall/winter, not summertime, when all you do is go into water! Excellent product, highly recommend to anyone. :’)
Amanda Lee –
My last review of this henna was in 2014. I didn’t think it was possible, but it got even better! The gloves are still not the greatest, but the shower cap they include is a huge bonus.
I had purple and black hair, last colored a year ago. Then I started doing the Curly Girl Method and wanted to use more natural products in my hair, so it only made sense that I came back to my beloved wine red henna. I grabbed 5 packs from a sale, and eagerly mixed the packet. I intended to use two packets since my hair is to the middle of my back. I only needed on packet, and there was still some left over! When it was nice and dry, I took my dog out, and it was a very sunny day. My downstairs neighbor saw my hair and jumped out of her chair and yelled, “OMG YOUR HAIR IS SO PRETTY! I LOVE IT!” 😍 I had to smile, as I’ve never had such a reaction to the insanely deep purple and red hues this henna gives. Definitely a lifetime user!
Amy –
This turned out exactly as the photo, a deep wine red, which is exactly what my daughter wanted! As others have mentioned it does not give you a bad headache as another brand we tried did. Left hair super soft and vivid! LOVE! We may try the indigo next time, just for fun.
Olivia –
I have used this (wine red) henna exclusively for nearly 7 years. My hair is healthy, the color is beautiful, and I don’t have to worry about weird chemical reactions. That said, I’ve listed some pointers below that have been helpful over the years with this product:
-Understand that henna is a commitment. If you’re the type of person that likes to change up their hair super frequently, this will limit your options substantially.
-Buy different gloves. The ones included are flimsy, awkward, and honestly just a waste of plastic.
-Take your time! It takes me 30 mins for a full application to shoulder length hair and I have a lot of practice. Keep it on for the full 2 hours for the best result.
-Have a friend help with the back if you don’t have a mirror setup that allows you to see it yourself.
-Use a ton of cheap conditioner when rinsing it out. I believe the instructions say you *can* use conditioner if it is dried in places, but just use it all over. Rinse as much as you can without it, rub it into places it’s clearly dried, rub it into your scalp! it’s dried there too! And then rinse, rinse, rinse.
-Blow drying really does help the color develop faster! I never blow dry my hair, except immediately after hennaing it. It makes a big difference.
-Hold off on washing your hair for a full week if you can. I find I need to reapply less often when I stick to this one.
-The color will bleed. Sometimes, for several weeks. white/ light colored pillowcases, towels, and shirts will get stained. Oxygen bleach works great for washable fabrics.
Overall, this is an amazing product and I recommend it far and wide to anyone who is committed to red hair but looking for a healthier option.

I have used other brands of Henna in the past and always had to stop because of the terrible migraines, with having two toddler boys leaving henna on my head for 6+ hours just wasn’t ideal and it always turned out bright carrot orange no matter what mix I used. I decided to give Henna Color Lab’s henna in “Wine” a try as a last resort to my henna journey. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I left it on for 1.5 hours, no migraine (not even a slight headache) and I now have a beautiful head of wine red hair. I will definitely be a repeat customer now that I have finally found a henna that I love!
Anna –
Have been using henna color lab since 2013 so that makes it 7 years now.
I have tried so many different hennas but is IT. the best of everything.
I started getting frayed very young and I have dark wavy hair. This color changes my natural dark brown to beautiful shiny chocolate color with reddish shine and my whites are bright wine red. I get compliments almost every day for the past 7 years. In the sun my hair is so bright and shiny this amazing beautiful reddish tone (wine den not orange) and whites that turn red red look just like the high lites
I hooked so many people on henna. My naturally dry curly hair is so shiny and I use heat on it almost every day but I was able to grow my hair so long and keep it looking so good.
I can not express how amazing henna is. The color is beautiful and your hair gets so beautiful and it’s relatively easy to apply (I do it myself) every 3-4 weeks and I use one pack just for the roots and maybe once or twice a year I use 2 packs for the whole head so it’s very cheap (10$ a month) and they always have sales and bundles.
I will never change this.
The only complaint is that the water will always run orange after washing your hair. I’m used to it now and all my towels are dark and I never wear light clothes when my hair is air drying because it would leave orange on the clothes and if I go to the beach swimming my hair will be dripping wet orange color. That’s the only thing. But you can wash it off your clothes with just water. Henna doesn’t stain permanently so it’s not a big deal.
I just absolutely love it

This dye is amazing!! The colour is bright and beautiful. I wanted to touch up my hair after having an appointment cancelled and now I’m not sure if I’ll go back! It touched up my three month roots and I have dishwater blonde hair professionally dyed (not fire red) but relatively bright red with highlights and darker red underneath. It kept the lighter red on top with the depth of the darker red. It’s a bit of a messy process but it get easier as you go. Depending on how much hair you have, make sure you set aside at least an afternoon. I have curly hair past my shoulders and with an initial root touch up, it took about 5 hours including application and rinsing the dye out. The colour is so worth it though!

I love henna! I have been using henna since 2013 when I had a bad allergic reaction to hair dye. I use to use another company but they went out of business I started using henna color lab, I really love you guys I’m currently 11 weeks pregnant and wanted to change my color so I decided red. It came out so beautiful everyone loves it!

My natural hair color is dark brown even though I’m Asian, my hair color never been jet black and I do have coarse hair with less than 1% of grey. With that being said, my result is better than I expected. It’s more dark brown/burgundy color under the sunlight with some super red hair mixing in it (because of the grey). It’s doesn’t fade away as quickly as chemical dye (I also use color-safe shampoo). I have been using the Wine Red Henna Hair Dye for more than 2 years and my hair is so shiny and vivid – got so many compliments on it!

I’m in LOVE with this henna and wish I had found it sooner! Formerly, I’d been using another brand by Lush, and Henna Color Lab is significantly superior for so many reasons. The simplicity of preparation of the product is loads easier. It’s legit easy, mix with warm water and go! The color itself deposited beautifully and the suggested picture of swatch was on point. Currently, I’m about 10% gray, mostly in the front temples and I feared that I’d have to do a couple of applications; however, it covered everything perfectly the first time. I’ve medium to dark brown hair and turned into this rich dark red while my gray turned a brighter red which plays off as highlights. Wish I could post a before and after pic. I’m over a month out and still have deep rich color. While I don’t have a single complaint about the product I do have a suggestion/tip. Dark towels are needed for at least a month or depending how often you wash your hair.
Maika –
I have very dark Asian hair and I’ve never dyed my hair before. Chemical nor henna. I’ve always wanted red hair, and wanted a change for the new year. The color wasn’t as vibrant as I wanted it (very subtle in normal lighting) , but my hair has a beautiful purplish red hue when I’m standing in the light. However, I can’t walk around with a ring light with me at all time. I’ll have to try this again in a couple months. Can’t wait to see what this looks like in the summer sunshine!
Jennifer Espinosa –
What an incredible rich red wine color! My hair situation before using this henna color was a mixture of red, orange and dark brown. What I was looking for was a red wine color without any orange and that is exactly what I got! If the color pictured is what you are looking for then you have found it. There will be different shades of it but the red wine color is prominent. The henna was easy to apply. I used coffee to mix and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to rinse out. The smell was not overwhelming and my daughter (and helper) also commented on how much she liked the smell. The last henna I used had caused an unpleasant experience of excessive scalp itching for 2 days but NOT with henna color lab. I am a customer for life.

This is my first and only review of a product, that’s how amazing this product is. I was driven to write a 5-star review!!!!
I have been dying my hair off and on, by myself and by others since I was 15. I hate my natural hair color but it is good hair and holds dyes well so I’ve always been eager to change it. I’ve been platinum, purple, bronde, chocolate brown, almost black and now for a while.. red. I live the all-natural life style and I am sustainable fashion designer, the only part of my life that wasn’t in line was my hair dying. I tried Madison Reed bc they touted a more natural dye. This is, in a word, TOTAL BULLSHIT. Moments after I put the dye on my head I found a blog that went through every single chemical involved and explained why it was no different nor better, sometimes worse! So the hunt for an all natural solution came. I had always heard about henna but I never knew it could be such vivid, beautiful colors. I always just thought it like the kind for tattoos. This was no more difficult than a box dye, not that messy either (but I have experience with pigments), it came right off my skin and left me with A GORGEOUS WINE RED. I did the full two hours and the subsequent blow dry. Now, today (the next morning) this color is so beautiful. I can’t believe it. It didn’t burn or smell. It 💯 worked like it was supposed to. I will never be using anything else for as long as I keep this red!!!

Wine red henna is an absolute gorgeous color that stays! I’ve been using this henna for years <3 So grateful to have a natural and gentle option for such brilliant results!
Yuliee –
my hair is DARK brown and the result is so beautiful!
my school doesn’t allow any hair coloring but they agreed that ill use henna and I’m so happy I did!
I’m writing it the day I did it, so basically, it’s not the final result but its already super vibrant and red
I mixed the henna with a tiny bit of lime and hot water and let it sit overnight (aka 17 hours)
I kept it on my hair for two and a half hours and washed
my hair was super healthy, now its a bit drier but maybe its because I didn’t wash the conditioner well or the fact I used lemon in it
but for right now I love the results!
id love to continue using henna color lab’s henna products, but sadly they don’t ship to my country, I asked my aunt to order it since she lives in California and she came on a visit and gave me
anyways, id love to see your products in amazon/shipping worldwide
100% satisfied

I am light blonde by nature. I mixed the natural henna (basically orange) with the wine red…came out so beautiful. I will only be using this product going forward. I wish I could share photos because it is amazing.
Joy –
I’ve always love red hair, the deeper, richer reds with a purplish tinge. I don’t like using chemical hair dye, and I’ve used henna in the past, so when I was ready to go all red, I found this Wine Red color and ordered it. The first attempt – I was completely in love with it. Never seen such intense reds with purplish glints. I’ve been using this color for over a year now. I’m med to dark brown but slowly going red, My hair has never felt so good and I do not subject my hair to harsh soaps or hair products – it’s as virgin hair as it goes. I will keep on using this lovely Wine Red shade as long as I’m in a red hair phrase. I highly recommend this product. Yes, it’s a pain to use it but 2 hours later, you will have glorious red hair and a lovely herbal smell. Just don’t wash your hair for a few days after your first application and use a hair dryer for a few minutes to intensify the color.

I’m surprised at how many five stars this product has gotten. This is not my first time using henna on hair but it has been many years, and I was so excited to do a burgundy. One pro to this product was that I felt it was conditioning. However, I have the following cons:
— I don’t like the one-size-fits-all instructions that accompany all the products regardless of whether they are dyes or treatments, which have some things in common but not all. They leave it up to the consumer to decide whether or not a step is applicable to the product they are using. Sometimes this is easy to do — with other steps, not so much.
— There seem to be steps or suggestions missing for the dyes. I didn’t remember until much later that it is really important to leave the mix out for at least 8-10 hours for optimal dye release before applying it to your hair. This is totally missing from the packages and I don’t remember seeing it on the website, which I looked over in detail. Consumers shouldn’t have to learn these things through comments in reviews.
— I don’t know if it was for this missing step, or if it had to do with quality control, but my color looked nothing like “wine red.” I mostly got brass tones and that was it.
— A lot of these natural dye mixes bleed for a long time (mine still bled after 1 month of application — watch out when you sweat or if you get caught in the rain) — the bleeding would be worth living with if the color was good.
— I found the odor to be too strong. I’m familiar with how henna and henna products smell after mixing and applying to hair, but this was stronger than average, I think.
— I still have dye packets I bought by accident before I decided on the wine red and based on Henna Colorlab’s return policies (shipping will be subtracted from refund, anything shipped for free will still have true shipping costs subtracted from the refund, plus you pay your own shipping, and also subtract a 10% restocking fee) …in the end there’s not much left to get back,[+code/sppt/]

I absolutely LOVE this henna dye! I have extremely sensitive skin and have been using Lush products for years. This is sooo much better! The hair dye actually works for dark hair and the colors are gorgeous. The smell is earthy (reminds me of almost like clay and tea mixed together)but not bad and I adore the way it makes my hair feel after. Part of the reason I love this henna dye is because it makes my hair significantly healthier, silkier, and smooth! The application is also so much easier than Lush products as it’s already in a powder and you literally just add hot water to it. Personally I mix together the Pure Henna and Wine red to make my own mix that I love for my naturally dark brown hair. If you’re looking for a natural healthy way to dye your hair that performs great and isn’t hard on your bank account this is definitely the way to go!
Samantha –
I never leave reviews but came here just to say–this is the BEST henna I have ever used. A million times better than the Lush one, but even awesome compared to other direct henna providers I’ve used in the past. My curly hair looks insanely healthy and the most gorgeous shade of dark red. Henna is messy and this one definitely stains your skin more than others, but that’s because it’s going to stain your hair more (plus for me it came off in the shower with a little scrubbing)! 1000000% worth it. Ok, off to stare at myself in the mirror more!

I have naturally dark brown hair. This hair color turned out a beautiful deep darkest red color. I absolutely love how soft my hair turned out. I rinsed my hair with the colorlabs lavender conditioner, such a pleasant experience. This color does bleed out a bit on my towels when I dry my hair but that is a small price to pay for such vibrant soft shiny results. Ever since I switched to henna colorlab my hair is in such great condition. I’ve noticed my hair is growing faster from how gentle this hair color is. I am very happy with my turn out!!
LILY –
I absolutely love this shade. I have lots of grey with dark brown hair. I cut my hair very short and this shade gives me the deep wine red color with lighter red highlights on the grey hair. The dye is easy to use and conditions the hair giving it fullness. I am so happy I found this company and will remain a customer always.

Do yourself two favors: Before you color your hair with this henna, invest in some very thick gloves, such as the yellow dishwashing ones! (The vinyl ones you buy at the drugstore aren’t thick enough and you WILL have orange fingers/hands) Two: Also buy some barrier cream and a cheapie shower cap AND one of those turban type towels. All are extremely helpful! This color isn’t messing around! Trust me, if you get this on your skin, you’ll have a bright orange reminder that is slow to wear off! I would also avoid wearing white or light clothing if you think your hair will be wet/you’ll be sweating. It tends to bleed a rust color when damp/wet. Now, if you wear black like me and use thicker gloves & everything else I mentioned…you will LOVE this color! It’s worth the hassle to me. Complete strangers are constantly coming up and complimenting me on my hair. When I tell them it’s henna—they can’t believe it! Thanks HCL!!

I have been using this for 5 years now and my hair color gets so many compliments on a daily basis! The color is especially vibrant in the sunlight – like a silky wine all over my hair 🙂 It looked beautiful when I had it waist-length and when chopped to bob/lob. As other reviewers have mentioned, it’s best to use it overnight (or 6-8hrs) and then not shampoo for a few days as the color still develops for the next 48-72 hrs. Check out my results 🙂 Instagram: tepsilau

I hardly ever leave reviews but I just had to because I am so happy. I have dark hair so I knew my color change would be subtle but I LOVE the undertones and it is much more red than I expected. I did not experience as much of the conditioning effect that people mention but I am so amazed by the color that I had to share. Try it!

I have Level 1 hair – so straight up black, with some rogue white hairs sprinkled in throughout. I honestly wasn’t sure about the colour pay-off of the wine red, but it turned out GREAT! As with all black hair, you can’t really see the colour unless you are in particular light (but that is just the nature of the beast), but my whites are now this amazing deep red, I couldn’t be happier. Also, the henna mixed with water looks totally like chocolate cake batter to me :).
Bianca –
Amazing! Hair looks just like the pictures! I have been using red wine henna from henna color lab for over two years now. I love that is is healthy, natural and provides such a deep red colour. (I have light brown hair). It keeps my hair shiny and smooth. I keep my hair in for about 3 hours then rinse. Definitely recommend! The colour fades over time (after about a month or two) to a copper colour. I re-apply henna every 3-4 months

I really like this product! It was very easy to dye my own hair at home. It definitely made the colored areas of my hair stronger and silkier.
I have dirty-blonde hair, but not too light. I was very pleased with the color that appeared when I dried by hair the day after I dyed it, but after 2 days, it changed to a very dramatic orange with no evidence of red at all. The orange was okay, but it was surely not the deep “wine red” shade that I was hoping for.
Lovely product, but blondes, be ware!

I have been using this since my hair was only 2 inches long. i used to only use a quarter of a packet. now i use 2 packets. it has been great for growing it out. really cut down on shedding and has kept it nice and thick. i sometimes tint it a few weeks in with manic panic and havent had any bad reactions.
Tinashu R. –
My hair was originally a really dark brown (almost black) and now it is this wonderful, VISIBLE, color. My hair is shoulder length, 3c/4a curls and it is very dense, so one packet did a over half of my hair; the first three or four inches of my hair are unhennaed with some hennaed highlights, and then the rest is 🍷 red. I expected less, I have to say but this really came through. I am in love with the color of my hair and often just look at the now red strands. In dark/lowish lighting, my hair color is not that visible, it has a small purplish sheen. In normal lighting, there is a visible tint/color to it. And in sunlight/bright lighting, my hair is a vibrant 🍷 red. On the first day, the color was especially bright, but it toned down 😭. I am planning to do my hair again soon to cover my entire head and make the color brighter. I do recommend this product and will use this brand for a long, long time.
*Edit*
After about two weeks, the color has faded/oxidized into a more reddish brown that is visible in warmish/ bright lighting and in normal lighting has some tint/highlights.

I’ve been using the wine red henna color lab dye for over a year now and I LOVE it. My natural hair color is a medium brown with some blonde and auburn highlights. After dying my hair with this the first time, it looked and felt amazing. I had no idea it would look even more amazing over the next couple of days! I leave it on for about 2-3 hours and the results end up being a dark red, almost purple, but amazing. I receive tons of compliments on it every time. My husband doesn’t like the earthy smell it has, but he loves the results. It is a pain to wash out, but worth it. I use conditioner to rinse it out and that helps a ton. This is the only brand I would use and recommend. My only complaint is how quickly the color fades, but red is the quickest fading color their is (from what I’ve researched), so I just do it more often.

This wine red shows up as sparkly red in my hair. I have black hair with red/brown undertones.
I used to use pure henna, and it gives me color in the sun, I’d say a dark sparkly orange/brown. But I decided to try out this Wine red just because. OMG. RED RED RED!! It showed up as red, even in dim lighting! A dark sparkly red. Very beautiful! I love it! I bought more immediately!
Since I still have quite a bit of pure henna to finish up, I’ve started to dye my hair twice a month. I’d dye it with pure henna, then color it with wine red. It added nice depth and dimension. Very pretty.
My hair doesn’t bind to color very well, but its ok. Be warned that a little bit of it will wash out in every hair wash. I have to wash my hair every alternate days, and the sparkle lasts about 2 weeks. After that, it’s still red, but just not as sparkly. Also, the color does rub off a little on your fingers. My fingers will get a slight orange tint whenever I braid my hair. My white towels I use on my hair also has a slight tint. But it washes out.
All in all, I love it!!
Remember not to use boiling water!! Keep a a thermometer when you’re heating up your water. Once you have about 120-140 F, it’s good to go!!
I love the way it makes my hair feel. Smooth and strong, and my hair also feels a little thicker.
Again, I have straight black colored hair with red/brown undertones.

This colour is as advertised! I had initially used a toner to make sure I’d like red before a permanent commitment. I coloured over an Auburn-ish hue and it came out a deep red.
My hair looks shiny and healthy unlike conventional hair dye. In exchange, it is a bit more of a processs and does take awhile to rinse out, but it’s a reasonable trade off for avoiding chemicals.
I will definitely buy again.

I love this more than the pure henna!
My hair is black with red undertones. I previously dyed my hair with their pure henna pack and decided to try out the wine red henna.
The wine red henna stands out more on my hair than the pure henna. Even in indoor lighting, my black hair has a nice cool wine red sparkle to it. Very natural and pretty.
Will buy more.

I have dark medium hair, so I’ve been using lemon to lighten up my natural color before using henna. The results are amazing. In the sun, my hair looks fiery and beautifully toned. I love it. Im sure to buy more!
joanna –
so gooodd and not time consuming. It just takes awhile to get rid of red-tinged color when you wash your hair. will repurchase it.

I wish i could show you guys how amazing this hair dye turned out. I got a lot of compliments. I am never going back to chemical dyes!
Some things I found useful are parting your hair. Mix the henna with hot water. Consistency should be like mud. Like literally if you did it right it should feel like there is mud in your hair. Before applying use Vaseline ( or in my case I used coconut oil. Worked fine!) to protect areas like your ears, behind your ears, neckline from staining. <3

I’m a long-time henna user and a traditional purist. I always wanted a brighter red than the copper that usually comes out with regular henna on my light brown hair, and I tried this brand. My hair came out just as red as I had hoped, without looking cartoon-y. I haven’t washed it yet, so perhaps the color will change, but I hope not! I did not experience the dryness some other users are reporting, but I did rinse with copious amounts of conditioner (4-5x my usual amount). I also only used one pack for my mid-back length hair — my hair is thick but my hairs themselves are thin. This amount was perfect, so I hope that helps.

I usually dye my hair unnatural colors, but recently I’ve been trying to grow it out. I tried to stay away from all dyes for a while, but I had a bad day and got a box of dark, almost black dye from the freaking drug store. It was terrible. My hair will never forgive me.
Anyway, after stripping as much of the color as I could for a few weeks, I decided I wanted to try something different. I got the wine red henna hair dye and hoped it would even out my hair and give me a much-needed mood boost.
The paste is easy to apply if you have a dye brush – I highly recommend getting one. Also be sure to mix the paste very well. I’m probably a dirty hippie, but I really like the smell – it’s earthy and herby. I left it on for about 2 hours 30, almost 3hours. It dripped a bit from under the cap, the only annoying part.
I rinsed and blow dried and hated the color. It was brighter than I thought and I could only see it on my roots. I didn’t freak out too much and gave it a couple days. Sure enough, it darkened within hours, and the next day in the sunlight, it was everything I wanted it to be. It tinted my chemical-dyed hair, it turned a beautiful dark red near the roots, and, while the visable damage won’t go away, my hair was shiny and felt much softer. I’ve had it a week and had more compliments on my hair than I ever had dying it purple. I’m converted.

LOVE this colour! I mixed in a bit of the regular henna in as well and the colour came out PERFECT. Love the colour + the company! THANK YOU Henna Colour Lab for making such an amazing product that’s good for my hair and the planet!!

I’ve been coloring my hair with henna for years and this is the first time it has left my hair silky smooth. My hair, naturally, has a rough texture and damges easily due to dry ends, so I was hesitant on washing it before applying the henna (but that’s what the directions said so I tried it!). Came out a beautiful dark wine color (originally it was a deep copper brown due to the old henna). Do rinse stray marks on your skin to avoid awkward stains, but don’t worry too much about it, it literally faded overnight so it was hardly noticeable. Absolutely awesome product!
Sara –
I LOVE the color. This was my first experience with henna, and I would say it was easy–but very messy and time consuming. I would also recommend using different gloves than the ones provided. Mine broke without me realizing and both hands are stained.
Anyway, the color is almost exactly as pictured on my hair (which is naturally a dark blonde with some leftover red dye from 3 or 4 months ago). It didn’t irritate my scalp like chemical dyes would. I will say that my hair felt incredibly dry, even after using almost an entire bottle of conditioner to rinse it out. I’m giving 4 stars because of the gloves and the drying effect, but other than that, I am very pleased. HCL shipped my order quickly and it even arrived a day before expected. I am excited to see how it changes over the next couple days, and I would certainly order again!

Comes out almost purplish but within a week or two becomes a deep shade of red. Best with the Henna Color Treatment a week prior to application. Washes out to a natural red and even with roots showing I still have people asking me if it’s my natural color (the henna stains the hair longer than the other pigments but turns into a very natural shade). Never disappoints. Only downssides are that it bleeds every time I wash it and it stains the skin on dying but washes off in a week or two.
I love this color!
McKenna –
Once again, hcl, you impressed me. I took a break from henna for a while, and my hair became kinda damaged and dry. After 1 application, my hair is softer, scalp feels balanced, and hair feels stronger. WOW. The color was not so even, but I expected that as I had some blue on the ends from the indigo previously applied (my own doing, not henna’s fault). I love you guys, thanks for making a great product to stand behind!!
Kenz –
Honestly I’ve never had a bad henna experience, although I’ve only ever used this brand and Lush. I like this brand a million times better. You get far more variety in the color options, it’s way easier, and it actually LASTS! Unlike the Lush products which seemed to fade in like 4 – 6 weeks, at least on me.
After a couple of years of hennaing my hair had gotten fairly dark and monotone, so I recently had some highlights put in (I have an Aveda stylist I love and she used a very mild bleach on me, leaving hardly any notable damage to my super baby-fine hair — yay!!). She put an auburn toner on me but it faded within like a week. So then it was time for more henna!
I emailed to ask for color advice, and (not the first time) Henna Color Lab was super responsive and helpful. I decided to go for Wine Red because I’ve been really in to that dark, rich red color lately, and WOW! It came out AMAZING!!! I am totally in love with the color, and I love that you can still see the highlights very well, it’s just that now they are RED. I have heard that henna fades off bleached hair more quickly so we will see how long this lasts, but if it lightens a bit so the highlights become more visible, I’m sure that will be pretty too. I mixed with water only, and left it on for 2 hours. My hair feels healthy and thicker than it did — another plus!
Last time I used HCL I did their pure henna with a bit of wine red mixed in. I liked that too, although I think it was a bit orange for my skin tone (I have olive skin with a lot of yellow/orange in it already). For anyone in the same boat, the wine red came out killer. It has more of a purple undertone than pure henna, which looks nice against the yellow-y undertones in olive skin (purple and yellow are opposites on the color wheel, after all). Even my hubby, who usually hates change, was totally into it!!!
Thanks HCL!! I will definitely be back for more!!!
jeannine britt –
I was pretty disappointed in this product they made it seem like no matter how dark your hair was if you left it in the two hours or plus more your hair would be completely read like the picture shows and I didn’t get that effect that on my hair has some type of glow to it but it still looks black as night no right at all like as if I never even died my hair
Whitney Hunt –
OMG!! It works. I recently purchased this color in the super bundle and I haven’t colored my hair before. I wasn’t expecting it to come out so well. My hair is Dark Brown/Black and my hair looks like a mixture of mahogany and chestnut with red highlights and I love it. You won’t notice any color difference until you step out in the sun and boy are you in for a surprise. WILL DEFINITELY ORDER AGAIN. The picture doesn’t lie. The color chart is legit!!
Millerswifey –
I am in LOVE with this color! I’ve been using it religiously for what feels like forever and receive compliments ALL THE TIME on my hair! I am very fair complected, freckled and have a boring mousy brown natural color. This red is multifaceted, shimmery and absolutely stunning. I love that it’s not damaging and leaves my hair soft and super shiny! I also love to share my henna story and covert people to plant based! I’ll never go back to boxed or salon color and will never order from anywhere other than Henna Color Labs. They make everything so easy!
April –
I have used many different henna dyes, but this one is the best! I have natural black hair which is starting to gray. This color doesn’t really do much for my black hair, however, it beautifully blends my grays in. After using this color, my hair looks as good as getting professional highlights. Love this product and will continue to use it!!!
Heart –
I’ve used this twice now after my old henna source went down. The deep red color is beautiful, but it doesn’t stick; the henna itself is very weak, and both times it faded almost completely back to my natural hair color (with a very faint orange tinge) in about a month. It’s super convenient to not need to spend time waiting for the dye to release, but I’m most likely going to switch to a brand with stronger permanent dyeing potential. Pretty great if you’re looking for something temporary.
Abi –
Amazing product! I naturally have dirty blonde hair, and I dyed part of it 2 times with the wine red henna. Both times, it stayed bright red (like in the picture) for about 2 days, and then lightened into a more natural but very orange color. Very good, but for blondes, expect orange ;-).
Cassandra –
Disappointed with this henna.
Every time may hair got wet (up to 2 months after) it would run and get all over everything.
I’ve used henna before and have never had this problem. The initial few washes & soaks should be enough to prevent it from happening. The color was beautiful atleast, but it faded in a month or so.
Keep in mind this is not pure henna. I suspect this may be what lead to all of the excess dye coming off.
Amanda Torres –
I used lush for a long time, and I have to say henna lab is way out of lush’s league. Wine red actually made my hair red, it’s absolutely beautiful! Plus side, henna lab is way less messy, goes on very smooth, the smell is strong but when washed out it leaves a sweet burnt chocolately smell. Love it so much!
Tara –
I’ve used different henna on my hair a few times prior, but wanted to use a more natural, eco-friendly, and US-based brand and ended up here. The packaging was neat and minimal, the directions were easy to follow, and the process was simple — especially in comparison to some other henna products that I’ve used. I wasn’t expecting much as far as color is concerned (my hair is black), but it resulted in a beautiful red sheen in the sun. It also made my hair healthy and strong.
I would not, however, give this product any more than a 3. Of all the henna that I’ve used, I have never had a product stay in my hair as long as this one did. I followed the instructions to a T and still had red dye coming out of my hair; now almost 5 weeks later. It is still staining almost everything I own, and doing some work on my shower and bathtub. I’ve used LUSH products without issue and several natural Indian hennas and have NEVER had an issue. I’m not sure what is it (the red clay or other ingredients), but it just didn’t want to leave. While I enjoyed the mission of this product, and am sure it’s worked well for others, I would not recommend this product based on my experience with henna, and would not purchase again.

This is the 4th time dying my hair with henna, as I am trying to find a better alternative to chemical dye (have been dyeing my hair red for about 6 years now). The trickiest part, I have learned, is getting my now 2″ roots to blend in well with the part of my hair that had been previously dyed with chemicals (my natural color is a medium ashy brown).
I was immediately hopeful and impressed upon opening the packaging when I noticed the directions, outside of the sealed henna bag was itself dyed red! I knew this was serious business. I followed the directions accordingly; with other brands, I used lemon juice and hot water and let the dye release, but since I saw no one recommending this I decided for my first time I should just follow the directions. I DID add a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar just because it soothes my scalp and if it brings out more red in the dye then, great. I also used warm distilled water because I just happened to have it lying around, though the directions say that tap is a-ok.
The results are fantastic. My hair is darkened, a deep rich cherry red. My roots blend in so much more with the rest of my hair. I am especially pleased to achieve such great results considering I didn’t have to wait for dye release (usually a 3hour-overnight process itself) and the wait time on the head was only 2 hours (also can be 3 hours-overnight, yikes!) Also, with other brands, I found myself using the hair dryer to add heat every 15 minutes or so to bring out more red, but I didn’t need to do this to get great results with HCL henna.
I did notice that the application was not as smooth as with other brands I’ve tried, but this didn’t bother me much and won’t deter me from buying again.
I also love how much healthier my hair is from using henna. I have thin curly hair, and henna did mellow out the curl a bit, but not in a bad way. Frizz is maintained (a big issue for me) and split ends are less frequent. I never thought I could grow my hair much past my shoulders, but since I’ve made the switch from chemical dye to henna, my hair is stronger, breaks less often, and is able to grow. I can’t stop touching it! (But should. Hah!)
I am very happy, and will be purchasing again. Next time, I want to try to mix the wine red and the regular henna because, hey, why not?
THANKS HENNA COLOR LAB! >^..^<

Ok, I VERY rarely leave feedback unless a product is truely awesome. This wine red is gorgeous. I have tried every box color out there and they either do not turn out the color I want or fade within 2 weeks. If this color does fade, I don’t really notice. I have to color my hair because my roots have grown in, NOT because of the color fading. Mixing it and applying to my hair did take some practice, so don’t get discouraged. You do have to let it sit awhile in your hair and rinsing takes sometime. I usually just make an at home “beauty” day out of it; bubble bath, face mask, mani/pedi, etc. Anyway, definitely try it, the colors great and my hair really is healthier since I’ve started using it.

This stuff is absolutely amazing! It’s the highest quality henna I’ve found and it’s the only thing that works on my dark hair. It has beautiful red/raspberry/burgundy shades! After finding out I was allergic to pretty much every hair dye, I’ve been on a mad quest to scratch my dye-hard itch. I just can’t be my natural color lol So far I’ve tried 4 or 5 different hennas including Caca rouge…which was so bad compared to the creamy wonderful quality of this henna! I will never use anything else. Henna color lab wine red henna left my hair softer and more conditioned than it was before as well. 😀 Thank you Henna Color Lab for bringing such a wonderful PURE product to people! I ordered a holiday bundle and liked it so much that I’ve come back and ordered 2 more bundles to stock up while it’s on sale! 10/10 🙂

So I’ve used Henna Color Lab twice before, both times to darken my hair after I stupidly dyed it at a salon or with box dye, and it did a good job covering up the coloring. I did find that it fades after a while, and it’s a bit better to not have as thick of a paste. I’m still working on finding the right consistency.
This is the first time I’ve used to to dye my hair a lighter color. I followed the instructions from start to finish (although the gloves gave me a lot of trouble) and had no problem rinsing it out with the help of some conditioner. Overall, it gave my dark brown/black hair a nice red tint that is somewhat noticeable in the light, however I’m thinking of doing one more round tonight to get a deeper more noticeable red color. So I would say if you have REALLY dark hair like I do, buy two packs and get ready for two nights of dying. I will also try blow drying my hair WHILE the dye is in tonight based on advice from other sites. Hopefully my boyfriend will actually notice a change in color after tonight’s dye session haha
Bonnie –
Let me tell you first and foremost, there is a reason these dyes have mostly five star ratings! This was SO fun and pretty easy to do for a first-timer like me. I have never dyed my hair before (with henna or chemical dyes) and was THRILLED with the result. After the initial shock of using a little too much of the wine red (it kept coming out crazy orange in my tests with pure henna) in my suggested 50/50 mix of pure henna/wine red, I was in love with the final result…and everyone else is too! I get SO MANY compliments on my hair. No one thinks it’s natural, of course, but I think it really suits me. 🙂 I think the only slight downside was that my hair is strawberry blonde (a little more on the red side), so it was kind of hard to get the right mixture for the color I wanted, but other than that, application was easy, not hugely messy, and it’s stayed dyed for about 2 months now (with some fading, of course, but it still looks pretty good!).
I’m writing this now after just buying another packet, so obviously I’m a fan. 🙂
Loren –
I am so in love with this! I have virgin hair- I went thru chemo and lost it all. It grew back a very pretty dirty blonde but I was ready for a change. Tried salons with their vivid colors and they kept telling me I need to bleach it which I didn’t want to go that far (had a few peekaboo’s with bleach put in) I also tried ion vivids at home and they washed right out! Ugh
I thought about using the henna dye before trying the bleach but the hair dresser never heard anything about henna so I got nervous. But I went home and did my own research and fell in love with this red! It is so red it glows in some lighting but it is subtle enough that it’s not a shock. I couldn’t be happier. I will never go back to a salon for color!!
*just make sure you have help if you have never done hair dye yourself. It can get messy and since the henna will dye your skin you need eyes to make sure it stays off your neck! 😛

My hair is a medium brown with very slight reddish tints noticeable in the sunlight. this will be my second time using the product. The color came out true to the picture, even more vibrant in the sun. In about 2-weeks the color settled into a nice reddish brown, not as vibrant but still lovely. I am dying it today about a month after the first application. It is fall and I want to keep the vibrant red going. I believe that the color will stay longer the more times you dye it. Yes, the application can be frustrating as you are using more of a pussing consistancy. Best if you can have someone apply it for you or use a brush of sorts for application to the roots. It washed out easy enough if you use a good conditioner like the directions suggest. Yes, it also did bleed in future washings. Just use a dark towel and dark pillow cases if you plan on showering in the evening. For the price, the lack of chemicals it is well worth the price!!!
Kiersten Suttles –
I’ve used this product twice, and while I really love the hue it gives my hair, it SUCKS to rinse out. I literally spent an hour under cold water the last time I put it in. The water turned clear after 45 minutes, so I rinsed a little more to be sure. It’s been a nightmare to wash my hair now. Two plus weeks after I put the henna in, the henna is still coming out. My hands look as though I have been messing with some spray tan. They. Are. Orange. I am black. I don’t use spray tan. It’s ludicrous. Whenever I have to fix my hair, I dread it. It only leads to a fresh new layer of henna on my hands and not to mention my clothes if I don’t dry my hair immediately.
I gave this product an extra star because of the awesome color that my hair is because of it.
Alexis –
I’m in love! This is such a beautiful color. I love that it is all natural. Process was relatively easy. Excellent customer service. I emailed a few questions before I purchased and received a quick response. The shipping was really fast and the price is great. Thank you so much and please keep making your henna!

Using this dye was easily one of the best decisions of my life, and I’m SUPER picky about my hair. I know everyone has been wishing they could upload pics, so if you’re interested I did a very thorough blog post with tons and tons of pictures, both before and after.
http://fishgulps.com/2016/07/24/why-i-chose-to-dye-my-hair-with-henna/I
Also, I want to mention how phenomenal their customer service is!!! Seriously, this is a fantastic company. I’ll be buying from them for a long long time now.
Mikaela –
I love this henna’s color! After my first application the color truly looked like a nice, dark cherry shade. I was expecting that color already, but it was better than I expected! Of course, the color did fade after a few weeks, but it lasted much longer than I expected! And my hair was still a nice red shade after over a month, albeit it wasn’t as bold as when I first dyed it.
I just did my 2nd application last night and the color is just as amazing as before! The color swatches in the images was true in my case, my hair was previously a darkish brown with some blonde-ish highlights, it created a nice effect of varying shades of red in my hair. I’ve been told it looks like it was done professionally at a salon!
And my hair does feel softer and feels very healthy lately. I leave the henna in over-night. It’s pretty uncomfortable going to sleep wearing the shower cap, and make sure to sleep with a towel underneath your head if you try this! It may leak through the plastic and stain your sheets. And then i shower it off when I wake up. I’d say it’s in my hair around 8+ hours then. The color turns out wonderful whenever I do this.
Finally, yes, there is a smell it leaves in your hair. But it only lasts about a day or two for me, after your 2nd or 3rd shower it should be gone. Also, the smell of the henna honestly isn’t that bad. At least it’s way more tolerable than chemical dyes.
I hope this review helped some of you! 🙂 This henna worked amazingly for my hair, I hope it works for you too!
Daghain –
I wanted to love this. The color is AMAZING, but my hair NEVER stopped bleeding color. Like, THREE WEEKS LATER it was still bleeding color. I’ve since switched to pure henna and not had this problem at all. Might give it a try again, as the color truly is stunning, but man…the bleeding was BAD.
Ali –
I wanted to wait quite a while before I made a review so I could really try out the product. I first used the red wine henna about 3-4 months ago on top on my already damaged, chemically red colored hair. (I waited over a month after using chemical dye)
My Process:
I bought two packages (since I have long hair) and simply just mixed hibiscus tea I bought from target. The tea was bright maroon when I added it in so I thought it would add to the red color. After washing my hair twice and without adding conditioner, I separated my hair and very thickly applied the henna. After it was all in I waited 1 1/2 hours and rinsed out with conditioner only.
When I woke up in the morning the color was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. I have never gotten that color even with chemical dye. It was such a bright maroon-red and it had highlights of a lighter red which I loved.
I only Washed my hair every 4 days. It did bleed a lot and eventually that maroon tint Washed out. (Probably because some of that color was from the tea). But eventually the color turned a little orange-brown. I’m not sure whether it’s the henna, or the fact that my hair is very damaged and my hair won’t hold the color very well.
I tried it a second time and now it’s been over a month and it’s still a pretty nice color. It’s not a nice as when I first did it but the color held up a little better than last time.
So I’m going to repurchase and try again!
Overall I’ve had great results with beautiful color. Hopefully once my hair is healthier the color with hold more.
Maria –
The henna is amazing. It gives a rich, deep, red color and looks great in sunlight! (Though some have commented it to look slightly purple but I have naturally dark brown hair.) I’ve used it twice already and it does last well. The first time the color was radiant for about two weeks, then faded slowly to a coppery brown when the sun hit and the second time around I feel like it’s sticking around much longer. It’s been maybe close to 3 weeks so that may be too soon to tell. Given that it is natural and not beating my hair up like other hair dye products, I will be purchasing again. Thanks Henna Color Lab! Keep it up!
cervantes200100 –
Wow, i was so amazed by this henna. All the other hennas I’ve used have turned my hair to orange. This henna is so worth buying, my hair is the color of fire! I’m hoping it gets a little darker since its the first day with this color. I left it on for four hours because i was scared it was going to come out more orange than red. Will purchase again!
Bahar –
Love love love it. It makes my hair soft and the color is brown red. I want to use this henna forever.. Thanks :)❤️❤️?
Torie Morris –
Love this color…best henna I’ve tried both in color & ease of application instructions. Thrilled with it!
Kat –
Love this color! I had just chemically dyed my hair in the salon a pretty similar color, but I hated the idea of starting to chemically dye my hair again. I had dyed my hair red for a while years ago, but I felt like it took a toll on my hair. I waited the suggested month before dying with henna, and my hair was a dark red by then but it had faded significantly. I only left the henna on for a little over an hour because I didn’t want it to be too red, and it turned out great!
It’s been two weeks and it’s changed color a bit. I won’t say faded, it just changed from having more of a purple tone to having more pure red/orange tones, which I don’t mind. I do shampoo my short hair every day, so I’m sure that doesn’t help. With this product though I won’t feel bad touching it up again soon.
I will note that I didn’t see a dramatic change in the health or feel of my hair, but my hair was very healthy and shiny to begin with (I hadn’t been dying and had been using natural products for years).
Thanks Henna Color Lab!
Randi –
I used this over top of grown out Lush Caca Rouge, and it turned out SO gorgeous. While the smell is a quite a bit stronger than I expected, the color I ended up with is almost identical to the swatch picture. It’s so deep and rich, I honestly am obsessed. Putting up with the smell is definitely worth the color payoff. This is my new go-to color, hands down!
Angela F –
I absolutely LOVE this color!! Was looking for something to use that wasn’t going to damage my hair but still provide a nice vibrant color, this product has done that. I was pleased with the shipping time (I live in Ontario Canada), Reasonably priced product and so very happy with the results! I followed the instructions religiously and found it worked beautifully, I actually enjoyed the application process and found it almost therapeutic :p Didn’t mind the smell it’s earthy and herbal but not overpowering and much nicer than chemical dyes. So overall Henna Color Lab has a life long customer in me 🙂 Please don’t EVER discontinue this product!! 🙂
Ryleigh –
I used a single packet on hair that is just below the shoulders. My hair is a dark brown, almost black color – this dye turned my hair a nice deep maroon. It only lasted about a week but that is probably due to me showering often and only leaving the dye in for 4 hours.
Mercedes –
This is the best hair color I’ve ever used! I love that it’s a true deep red color and there aren’t any harsh chemicals to damage your hair. I have waist-length dark brown/auburn hair and got amazing results from just one and a half packets of the Wine Red henna. I threw in two bags of raspberry tea into the hot water as well as adding a tablespoon of coconut oil to the mixture. I left the henna in my hair for about three hours before I finally rinsed it out, and once my hair dried the color came out exactly how I hoped it would. It looked even better after a few days. It’s especially beautiful in sunlight and noticeable even in fluorescent lighting. The dying process is time-consuming and messy, but it’s definitely worth it for the price and health benefits of henna.
Emily –
This is the best product I have ever discovered. After bleaching my hair and being blonde for yours, I dyed my hair as a brown ombré. It was okay, but I knew I wanted something new and I did not want to keep loading my hair with chemicals. Somehow, I found this website and stumbled upon this wine red. I used this for the first time and I had great results. The blonde part of my hair was more like fire, but the top was a deeper wine red. I ended up dying my ends brown after awhile and re using henna and got the results I wanted. It lasts for a long time, and it gave me such beautiful results. The process takes awhile but it’s so worth it.
Kathleen –
I really, really wanted to like this henna. This was my first time using it (and I haven’t dyed my hair in years), and even after painstakingly making sure that every strand was coated evenly, it didn’t stick around for long. The color is uneven, and even three weeks later, it still washes out orange in the shower. On the bright side, my hair looked amazing for the first couple of days.
Greg –
I have jet black hair and wanted wine red highlights. After trying quite a few other brands and ending up with mousy brown test strands, I’d almost given up when I saw some online reviews for HCL wine red henna. I ordered it, did a strand test and was amazed by the color! It’s exactly what I was looking for! Did the highlights and they are absolutely beautiful! HCL Wine Red Rocks! I’ve found what I was looking for and I’m sticking to it…forever! And the fact that they are cruelty free and vegan just adds to their appeal.

This henna is amazing. I did loads of research before trying and when I found that mehandi was way too expensive to ship as I’m Canadian this was my second best choice. And I am not disappointed. I have brown/black hair and it was mostly chemical dye with about an inch of roots. In my apartment which is very dark it looks a plum colour in the sun or in fluorescent lighting it’s a rich dark red black cherry colour and even tho u can see where the roots are differnt it’s only noticeable if u look closely. As soon as light hits your hair it all looks the same. This is exactly what I wanted and I didn’t think I would get this colour at all. I’ve also been having many issues with hairloss at the age of 24 due to hormonal issues but this made my hair feel twice as thick and immediately during the first shower I lost maybe a third of the hair I had been loosing. As for my mix instead of pure water I used celestial black cherry berry tea and some red wine vinegar. I left it in for three hours as I had to get my son to bed but it was perfect. Next time I think I will do it with only water and see if its a tad redder without the added ingredients.

This color is gorgeous! I had light brown faded hair (redken dye) and about 2 inches of regrowth (my natural hair is a dark ashy blonde) and it came out awesome! The roots are a fiery red and where the brown is its deeper. It took better on my natural hair but still looks good. Will definetly buy more! Can’t wait for all of my chemical dyed hair to grow out so I can have all henna!

If you’re looking for a durable red color that won’t fade in a matter of weeks, this is your best option.
The powder is easy to mix and apply, or at least it was in my pixie length hair, and I only used half a packet.
Not gonna lie, the mix smells exactly like a farm animal’s rear end. I would know because I used to work with livestock and was hit with nostalgia when the mixture sat on my head, so if you have a really weak stomach you may want to find a way to keep from gagging.
But my hair has been dyed for three weeks now and there’s absolutely no sign of fading. I also highly recommend henna color lab’s solid shampoo bars, because I’m fairly positive I have it to thank for the lack of fading.

This is the red I have been missing from my tradition dye days! At first, I didn’t like the color but I had forgotten it takes a few days to fully develop . . . now I love it! The last girl who cut my hair couldn’t stop touching it because it is so soft! My hair is usually medium brown and very fine. In addition to making it a pretty color, my hair is healthier & thicker too 🙂 Word of caution: Use a towel you don’t care about and a pillow case you don’t like much for the first week. Color will “leak” a bit when wet even with through rinsing – no more than any other henna I have used. LOVE LOVE LOVE & already ordered more!!

I have been using this for two years now. This is by far the best product I have ever used for henna. My hair has since recovered from the damage I have done to it in the past three years, it has never been better. The red doesn’t wash out and stays true to its color for about a month. I am so happy to have found something that works for me.

PS- I chose henna over my usual box dyes bc I was looking for a cruelty-free and vegan product that produced stunning reds. Y’all filled that bill wonderfully. Don’t ever change!

I was terribly nervous to use this henna as I had only ever used henna out of a Central African market before and it turned my hair carrot orange! This time it turned out marvelously. My hair wasn’t in the greatest shape bc I had been using boxed red dye on my blonde hair for years. My roots were out about 1.5 inches and the henna treatment made them blend seamlessly into the rest of my hair. I now have wine colored hair with fiery red highlights.
I did a lot of research too before I colored my hair. First I mixed the henna powder with steaming hot distilled water, 2 heaping tablespoons of coconut oil, and a liberal sprinkling of cinnamon. I did not mind the smell at all. I added water until I got a yoghurt consistency and then covered the concoction with plastic wrap and let it sit overnight. The next morning I added a tad more hot water and put the mixing bowl in a larger bowl of hot water to heat it. I didn’t find it difficult to apply at all. I leaned over the sink at first but had no drippage so just stood up and applied it. It took about 10 minutes to do my fine, shoulder-length hair. I then put the plastic cap on with a towel over that. I left it on for 4 hours. To remove it I just hopped in the shower and rinsed, then applied a lot of conditioner twice. Each time running a thick-toothed comb through the conditioner and henna. Then I just rinsed a few minutes more with tepid water until the water ran clean. I also applied some henna with a q-tip on my blonde eyebrows and they now match my hair beautifully. My hair is much fuller now and I’ve already gotten compliments on the color. I’m a convert for life!!

I am new to Henna. I did my first Henna 3 months ago. I love knowing I am using natural products. I have been wanting to break away from the chemicals and accidentally landed on this site when I was searching online for something else other than hair 🙂 I have gotten so many compliments on my hair color. I love the richness of the hue, naturally it is more red at my roots due to my grays. I have shoulder length naturally curly hair, and live in a very humid area. I love the gentle scent, the softness of my curls. I am just a very pleased customer. The products ship quickly, I have had zero problems and highly recommend this site and its products!! Thank you Henna Color Lab!!

I started with the Auburn henna, then moved on to the Pure Henna, which looks fabulous and natural. I decided to try out the Wine Red for an extra brightness. I mixed this with Henna and it came out beautiful but the super red part washed out in about a week and I was just left with the henna. I used to Wine Red on my daughters hair – she has bleached ends – and the wine red washed out in about 2 days. Maybe I need to leave it in longer?

This is my first time using this brand of henna. I’ve been coloring my hair with henna for the last 7 years, at least once every 3-6 months. For the last four years I have had dread locks, and use henna to dye the lower layer of dreads, leaving the top layer of dreads and my bangs blonde. I have been trying to achieve this rich, deep reddish purple color for as long as I’ve been using henna, and I am so excited to have found this company! Not only is their henna high quality and true to color, they are based on sustainable, natural, and vegan practices. (Please note, colors will always vary on many factors including your natural color, temperature of water, vessel used to mix henna, time allowed to set, etc.)
I got my package in the mail and dyed my hair the very next day. I couldn’t be happier with the results 🙂 I used one package to dye about half my heads worth of dreads that reach down to my waist- it was the perfect amount. I let set for about 2 hours to allow the color to express itself fully. Gentle blow drying and sitting in the sun help the color to set as well.
Yes, dying with henna is an incredibly messy and time-consuming process, but I like to think of it as a sacred beautifying ritual. When I can, I spend a whole day preparing, dying, setting, and styling my hair with henna. Not only is it purifying on a physical level, leaving the hair clean and healthy, I find the process to be a kind of meditation on the mental/spiritual level as well. Henna is a powerful tool for self-expression, but I like to think it’s not so much about changing the way you look as it is about changing the way you feel. What’s a better way to change how you feel than investing in a safe and natural product that nourishes you from the outside in.
Happy henna-ing <3

The color is beautiful! I have dark brown hair (level 3-ish) at my roots, and it lightens to about a level 5 (medium brown) towards the ends of my hair. After this color, my hair was a beautiful burgundy towards my roots, and a fire-y red towards the ends. I have thick hair, and this added even more natural volume, which I love! My only problem? The gloves. I have ordered from HCL a total of three times now, and the first time, my gloves had a hole in them, and this time instead of gloves I just got plastic hand-shapes (I use two packets, and the gloves provided in both packets had this problem), they forgot to fuse the two sides of the hand shapes together to make a glove, I think. Bottom line: amazing product and hair color, but buy your own gloves.

I used a pack of the Wine Red and a pack of the Pure Henna (mixed it with a very strong hibiscus/blueberry tea) and came out with a beautiful color that is a deep red-orange. It was my first henna experience but I knew what to expect after weeks of research.
The day before I applied the henna, I used a red protein filler in my hair which I think gave the henna a good hold on my hair.
Next time, I’m just going all in with the Wine Red since those are the tones I’m really looking for. Super excited to do it all over again once my roots start showing.

I bought this henna to mix with the pure henna hair dye to get a nice deep red with copper undertones. For some background: I naturally have dirty blonde hair but began dying it with boxed dyed, then getting it done at the salon. The salon got expensive and damaging and I was sick of paying them tons of money for something I would have to get touched up every few months. I decided to go back to my natural roots (pun intended) and try out henna. I bought the package deal: 2 henna packets, 1 hair treatment, and a trial shampoo, I also bought the conditioner as well. Let me tell you, henna application is messy, time consuming, and very weird looking, but it is so FUN! I absolutely loved it. It has an earthy tea-like smell, which is awesome. I had someone help me with the hair dye to get even application in the back, but im sure with some skillful mirror placement it could be done alone. I recommend doing it in sections (I pinned up 5-ish and took them down as I was ready). I previously had a brown (faded from red) to blonde ombre, so my result was a deep red to lighter deep red at the tips. It is VERY bright in the sun. This is a very fun color, but be aware that it is a very bright color. If you are looking for a more natural looking red, I would suggest maybe the auburn or ginger blonde color (or perhaps mixing one of those with some of the wine red or pure henna). Getting the henna out took some time, and beware that whenever you wash your hair it will probably wash out a bit in the water and your wet hair + white sheets is not a good idea (learned this the hard way). If you’re considering it, go for it! It’s a blast, and henna color lab is an amazing company to buy from and support. I’ll definitely be back for more!

The first time I hennaed my hair last year after an extreme allergy to PPD, I used red wine henna. It was very bright on me and my husband was calling me “Bozo”. I then switched to mahogany but, with every use, my hair got darker and darker and any sign of red went away. I then decided to mix the red wine with the copper brown. My hair is now this amazing shade of cinnamon toast (the only way I can describe it). With the PPD allergy, my doctor put me on steroids for 12 days. The second day I lost 70% of my hair. It has grown in with the softness of baby hair but has grown in twice as thick. Over the years, I was losing more and more hair but I chalked it up to growing older. I now know those boxed colors were killing me. For the first time in years, I can say I truly love my hair. I would also like to mention I had an African-American woman in the store last year then last week. She could not believe my transformation. I told her what I was using. She pulled her hair out of a clip and it looked like a Brillo pad that was stretched out. She also told me she had lost a lot of hair over the last couple of months. A few days later, she came in, beaming with soft ringlets all over her head. I have never seen such a transformation. We are both such advocates now of using natural products. Thank you again, Henna Color Lab!

My hair is so naturally dark that I thought I’d never be able to use henna and have it turn out noticeably different. This was not this case! I am very pleased with the wine red color! I love that the color worked with the few natural highlights I do have– the lighter browns are a lighter, more vibrant red, and my darkest hairs are still very dark with a very faint hint of red. My favorite thing– my steadily breeding grey hairs have turned an amazing cherry red, much like the color I always wanted my hair to turn when I used that goth-store red hair dye in high school. So cool!
My only concern is that two weeks later, my hair still bleeds a lot in the shower (it seems to be fading very slightly each time, no biggie, I expected it). But what I don’t like is that my wet hair stains anything it touches. I prefer to let my hair air-dry, so laying my head on a pillow while still wet is now off-limits or I have a big orange stain on my pillowcase. Maybe most people blow dry their hair, but I prefer to go to bed with it damp, so it’s definitely been an inconvenience that I did not expect :/

I love this hair dye. It always looks good and it isn’t too extreme.

This was my second attempt ever to dye my hair. It was really messy. So messy that, as soon as I started putting it on my hair (and it went on my legs, on my arms and on my face), I swore that I would never do that ever again. Then, one hour and a half later, I looked at the color of my hair… And I understood that I was going to do it many many more times instead. It’s totally worth it, the color is AWESOME! I have medium brown hair, and the week before applying the henna I had already applied a different henna (lush caca rouge), which didn’t really make my hair red. It was just a bit lighter, I would say copper. Anyway, I was a bit scared of what could have happened. You know, orange hair and stuff. Instead, I was just amazed! The color is vivid red. It’s beautiful under the sun, and it looks very dark red when the light is not too much. I am just going to buy a lot of it! Just one suggestion: don’t put too much water. I am sure it would have been much less messy if it wasn’t so liquid.

I purchased and applied the wine red henna treatment about five weeks ago. The color was vibrant and beautiful, and my hair felt so strong and nourished. My curls did become a bit relaxed for the first two weeks, but they are back to their bouncy selves again. While the color did run quite a bit over the initial four weeks, my hair has retained a good amount of the treatment. I actually really like the shade it has faded into — it is now more of an auburn tone. I was very pleased with how it turned out, and it looks fantastic with my skin tone, but I think it might be a bit too bold for me to continue. That is just my preference, though. I will be trying the auburn next since that is similar to where the shade of my first treatment is now and I really like it.

Love this color, but DAYUM! I’ve had it two weeks and some yellow something is STILL bleeding out of my hair in the shower. I’m more a “copper red” than “wine red” kind of gal, so I’m trying pure henna next (I’m running the gamut through the reds to see what I like) but seriously, I’m not sure why this is happening. Weird. Color is AMAZBALLS, though. So fiery red. You’ll feel like a video game princess!!!! Recommend! YMMV.

Loved the dye. However I do use a fairly strong shampoo every couple days, so it washed out after a couple weeks. But that’s alright because I definitely plan to re-dye my hair. It’s also sort of nice that it can be washed out because while I was sure I wanted this hair color, I was only 95% sure. It came out very strong in the first week but definitely faded after a couple showers. However! The color right after the first rinse is so awesome. I figure after a couple dyes with it, it should stick around. But until then. Totally recommend this!

I’ve used the hair treatment once and red wine color twice. I decided to switch to Henna after using box dyes for about ten years. I’m pretty disappointed after two applications. It dried by hair out pretty badly, it feels like straw and I’m using tons of conditioner just to keep it soft and normal feeling. I can’t even brush it normally after a shower and end up having to use leave in conditioner as well. Worse, I can’t seem to get the color to keep. The sales rep says this is because I bleached my hair 8 months ago (I wanted to see how I would fair blonde, hated it and went back red) However, it is still frustrating. The first time I used the Wine Red Henna it came out orange on one side and red on the other and undeneath. So I did the hair treatment. A few weeks later I just did the Henna Wine Red again and it looked GREAT… for a day. 34 hours later I shampooed for the first time and most of the color seemed to come out again and Im back to a weird dirty blonde on one side and red on the other. It looks terrible.
I’m not sure if I will use this system again. I will likely stick with Henna just because I know the box dyes are way worse but I will probably try another brand (my kurdish friends use Henna as well and have other recommendations as they have watched me struggle) At this point I have spent almost $60 and have gotten almost nothing out of it as my hair looks like crap. 🙁

Holy cow!
I was really skeptical when I bought this stuff after having a so-so experience with another brand of Henna last year that left my hair maybe sort of orange in the brightest of lights. I figured my hair was too dark to get the red color I wanted without resorting to chemical dyes and chalked it off as a loss. I decided to give it another go after reading the reviews on this henna and I’m really glad that I did. One thing I will say — this stuff is POTENT. It will stain your face. It will stain your clothes. It will stain the walls. It will stain the counters. I opened the foil pouch and saw that the henna powder had discolored the instruction sheet through it’s individual plastic pouch within the aluminum pouch. For the love of everything, cover up your counters when you’re putting this stuff on. I think I made mine just a bit too runny because I found it splattered all over my bathroom walls after I was done applying it. I also vastly overestimated how much I would need. I have waist-length hair and bought three packages. I only used about half of my mixture. Removal was pretty easy as I just hopped in the shower and slathered on a ton of cheap conditioner to work out the set henna.
The color. Holy mother, the color. I expected to be more of a ginger, but this stuff delivers. Deep, fiery, radiant wine red. My hair is pretty dark and I was worried after I got out of the shower, but once it started to dry? Man, oh man. Awesome. I’ve also noticed that the only articles of clothing that remained stained by the run-off from my hair were the shirt I was wearing when I applied this stuff and one small section of the towel I used to dry my hair after rinsing the henna out.
That being said, I colored my hair almost a month ago and I’m still getting some run-off when I shower. The color hasn’t faded from my hair much at all, and the towels I use come clean in the wash, but I’m still hesitant to use my white sheets.
All in all, worth it.

Red, red, red!!! Finally, a henna product thst delivers. No brown, pond green, or orange. Just deep red as pictured. I started with a medium chestnut brown which was the result of the henna product I bought at Sallys. I’m used to a bright, dramatic Paul Mitchell neon red, but repeated dying took it’s toll on my hair with excessive dryness and breakage. Was looking for a comparable vibrant red without the damage. I just found it. I left mine on for 2.5 hours. No regrets.

AMAZING!
I was very, very hesitant to use henna but after hearing and seeing so many wonderful things about it, I just couldn’t resist. My hair started off this color (http://tinyurl.com/okvg4on) and, literally minutes after washing and drying, looked like this (http://tinyurl.com/q5ofc7l). EXACTLY the color I wanted. The only thing I wish the instructions had were time descriptions. After reading up online, I decided to let me mix set for 12 hours (I squeezed in a little lemon juice and water that was red from two tea bags) and then let it sit in my hair for 12 hours. So literally, an hour ago, I just washed it out. I will be telling everyone about this product, and your others!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this hair color!!! So I’m vegan and just started dyeing my hair for the first time. Well stupid me I used Feria ( Chemicals from Hell) on my hair and was sick from the side affects for two days. I loved the color but not the affects. So I did my research and found this amazing company, watched all the you tube videos and looked up everything possible about henna. Bam! this company has great values, products and stands up for what is right. Love you guys! So, I’ve always been blonde and now I’m wine red. I’ve received more than 200 complements from friends, family and a whole lot of strangers. I love my hair. For me the product was easy to apply, I love the smell because it reminds me of the greens plus I take and the color is fabulous. I will be a forever customer for you guys so Please Never go out of business. I’m addicted to Henna, my new found love. Again , thank you so much for the foot work you all have done so that I can have beautiful , healthy hair. Thank you Henna Color Lab!!!!!

This was my first time using henna, and I absolutely loved it!
I am African American with short, type 4a, medium-dark brown hair. One pack was just enough to cover all my hair. Before using the henna I detangled with conditioner, let that sit for about two hours, and rinsed it out. Then I shampooed and applied the henna like it says in the directions. I put the henna in all the way to the roots with no irritation at all. When I rinsed out the paste, there was very little shed hair. It didn’t really loosen my curls, but it did strengthen and soften them.
I thought the color would only show up as undertones, but when I looked in the mirror I could really see the color! The picture given for dark hair is a very deep red, but for me it shows more as a reddish-purple. Not exactly what I wanted, but still very pretty. I do plan to buy another pack to enhance the color and cover the spots I missed.
As for stains: it did stain my fingers a bit when I rinsed it out and when I braided my hair for the night. I washed my hands with shampoo and got nearly all of the stain off.
Overall I am incredibly satisfied! Safe to say this is the only henna I will ever buy.

I have used chemical hair dyes in the past and my hair never held the color, with this wine red henna, my hair holds the color and looks simply amazing. I’m in love with my hair color.

This was the best henna I’ve ever used! Color was an exact red wine hue, and it shines amazing too!
I will only purchase my henna from this website from now on! I loved the entire experience! Thank you!

I already posted a review but wanted to put this info out there in case someone is looking for it. I called one of the reps for Hennacolorlab and asked how long I’d have to wait to henna after my hair had been bleached. He said that I could do it right away and that essentially the henna would help any damage from the bleach. So I tried it. I bleached my dyed dark brown/black hair in large chunks and strips and lifted it about 6 or 7 shades to a dark blond orangey color. I then applied the wine red henna AND I LOVE IT! The color is fabulous ! In the light it looks like FIRE! Those spots that I didn’t apply the bleach to are still dark but have a red tone. Those areas that are bleached are beautiful red and my entire head is shiny and fabulous! I plan to do it one more time to get an even darker red and then I think I’m done! The ONLY thing I can complain about is the runoff in my shower and even so the color has not faded! Thank you Henna Color Lab!!
Marie –
I have wavy medium brown hair. The product has an extremely deep scent when applying, but afterward it went away. The color for me lasted 2.5 weeks it is still kind of there but only in the sun. I am a swimmer and practice for 3 hours daily, this made is come out fast. However, the color stayed a great wine red. This product is also great for your hair. There are days where I did not feel like washing or conditioning my hair and it would be fine. This product truly enhances the quality of your hair.
sharyne –
I found your website and I had never seen the deep wine red henna before so I purchased the regular henna and wine red and mixed it. After one and a half hours under the heatcap I rinsed it off and screamed when I looked in the mirror. This is the most lucious deep red color I have been searching for (more than 20 years ) Your henna is top notch in quality and I LOVE my hair. No lengthly hours of overnight mudcaps with weak color. I have found utopia! Thank you so much for starting your company on the west coast.

I used this product this weekend after first using another company’s Red Egyptian Henna. This product was SO much easier and gave me a FIRE red color on my greys that is absolutely gorgeous! I almost wish my entire head was grey to get this result everywhere! In fact, I love the color so much, I plan on bleaching my hair this weekend in large chunks to get this color more predominately! My 3C curls were NOT loosened by the Henna, which was puzzling, because it has the reputation for loosening curls. My hair is shiny and soft and I did not have issues with roughness or tangling at all! It does run a yellowish color in the shower, but I don’t mind, nothings perfect, and this is pretty close! My only problem was that it was runny and drippy, but that was likely because I mixed it to thin! Overall, I say this will be my Henna from here out!
Adwilson –
It’s the perfect shade of Red. It’s easier, less smelly, and quicker than traditional henna dyes that I’ve used. The color tends to bleed a little in the shower for a few washings, but it really doesn’t fadd, because the henna in it doesn’t fade. It might just be because my hair is thick, buy I stopped wearing white, just in case (Seattle weather, just can’t trust it). Totally worth the fashion swap, people stop me in stores to ask me about my hair, men and women a like. And my hair is healthier now than when I used chemical dyes. (it as itchy and my hair fell out.) very pleased and I will order again!
Taylar –
I LOVE this henna! This was my first time trying henna and I was a bit nervous, I wanted a color change and the conditioning benefits a la Curly Nikki so I decided to buy two packets just in case it was the bomb.com. I definitely got both conditioning and color! My hair is was a dark, dark brown almost black and it’s now a lovely cherry cola. It’s actually darker than my natural hair, but also a beautiful deep dark red. I LOVE LOVE this color it’s multi dimensional, you can see the red indoors and it is VIBRANT outside. I have almost APL (armpit length) HIGH density hair and I used one packet. I didn’t follow the instructions though, this is how I did it:
1. Mixed packet with half a lemon ( I probably won’t use that much lemon again it was drying, maybe 1 tbl next time), 1 cup fresh brewed black tea, 1 cup fresh brewed green tea, and a splash of coconut milk.
2. Let it sit covered for an hour while I washed with my clay mixture
3. Applied to slightly damp hair and left it on overnight.
4. Werked it out!
My hair is smoother, STRONG and thicker ( although my hair is super thick, it is fine so my styles just weren’t as full as I like, but now I get day three hair on day one) and just awesomesauce I just bought 5 more packets and I plan on doing it again once a week for the next 4 weeks then once a month after that for maintenance.

This color is absolutely amazing. Been using it for about a year now, people stop me almost every day to ask what color I use. They have no idea that henna can come in such beautiful and a diverse shades. I always direct them to this website, and have even bought packets for people at work. It looks great on my naturally mousy brown hair. Kind of messy but once you do it a few times it’s way easier then chemical hair dye and does not burn your skin and is safe around pets and children 🙂 will definitely use it for years to come, may switch to the dark brown color soon for a bit of a change. Verdict: love love love!

I have wavy medium to dark brown hair with honeyish highlights and wanted to use something different on my hair than harsh chemicals and dyes. I love red hair but normally am very weary because colors never seem to show up on my hair and when they do it tends to get coppery. I used the “Mahogany” color a week before and it gave me a nice red undertone but not quite the red richness I was looking for. The “Wine Red” color made my hair such a gorgeous color. In the light it looks so rich in color! I am very impressed! My hair is very thick and wavy but reaches just below my shoulders. 1 pack worked just fine for me. I left it on for 2 hours and when i washed it I instantly saw a difference. I will continue to use the Henna Color Lab products. They work brilliantly.

I mixed the Red Wine and Pure Henna 50/50 (after asking for a recommendation on mixture and getting a great response from HCL’s wonderful customer service!) and the results are nothing short of jaw-dropping!! I feel like a bombshell!!!! The color is so rich and bright but doesn’t look completely unnatural; I’ve gotten so many compliments already! I NEVER IMAGINED my hair could look this awesome!!!! Thank you for making me look and feel beautiful and like the redhead that genetics didn’t know I was supposed to be!!!
Allison –
I had not dyed my hair for over a year after some truly disastrous previous salon visits. Was looking for something to not break down all the hard work it took for me to heal my damaged hair and WOW I found it!
This color took so well to my hair and even helped the nasty overgrown highlights blend better with the rest of my hair. I am beyond happy with the color. It is bright, but not too bright indoors. I have gotten so many compliments.
Only complaint is that the henna did dry my hair out fairly badly. Nothing a good conditioner and some coconut oil can’t fix!
Brooke –
I can’t believe how beautiful this color is. I’ve hemmed and hawed about henna-ing my hair, mostly because I was nervous about the permanence of the color if I was unhappy with the result. However….I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! I have dirty blonde hair with old highlights and some whites/greys coming in. The resulting color was a beautiful mix of cherry red, fire, and the color of red wine when you hold it up to the light. Couldn’t be happier.
Amanda –
Best red I have ever tried! Natural or chemical! My hair is medium brown roots and chemically died red. I tried a few henna treatments before but this was by far the easiest and fastest. Color was rich and vibrant! And pretty even between roots and chemically died hair. I was skeptical about all the positive reviews, but the product lives up to all of them. I used the lavender shampoo before and the conditioner after the treatment. I also put a few drops of lavender essential oil in the henna and water mixture. No funny henna smell after! Thanks henna color lab!!!!

I cannot rave about this product enough. I was hesitant at first because the only henna I’d used before was much lower quality, and faded from red to light orange in a few days, so I couldn’t believe you could get the ‘red’ red pictured though all natural ingredients. Boy, was I happily wrong! The order arrived incredibly fast, the packaging was cute, friendly, and very informative and clear, and holy cow, it was so easy to use! I only had to leave it on for two hours, and there was no need to mix anything but water with the powder to achieve the desired color. I did add a half tablespoon of olive oil to the mix for hydration, but only because my hair’s so fine and prone to frizziness. It’s been 24 hours and I’ve already received so many compliments, from friends and strangers alike! I couldn’t be more pleased, I’ve found my new go-to dye, thank you so much!!!

I expected the color to not be as bright as it is. I absolutely love it. The process is not bad for henna, and since it was so well sifted and all ready to go, it wasn’t bad. I liked that I only need to keep it on my head for 2 hours instead of all night. It stained my skin, but I very easily could have put Vaseline around my scalp. The color is amazing, and I look forward to doing it again.

I really love how this hair dye turned out. I love dying my hair a wine red/ dark auburn color, but my hair is very fine and thin (very curly though) so I wanted to stop with the chemicals and try henna. I love it so much. I bought 2 packages because I wasn’t sure if one would be enough, but I had enough with the one. I’m glad I bought 2 though so that I can do touch ups. I do have to say the only thing I disliked were the gloves that came with it. It was like food handling gloves and it was very annoying because they kept sliding and moving. I loved the dye it was so simple to mix. I got a plastic bowl (pretty large one) and ppoured the powder. Then got some water from the faucet at the hottest temperature (it was about 114 degrees F.) And slowly mixed it in to the cake batter consistency. Applying it was horrible because it was a clay cinsistency so my hair was getting hard but it was so so worth it! Love it so much and my natural hair color is a dark brown color I had about 2 and a half inches of toots and then the rest of my hair was the auburn red. So the previously dyed hair is a nice wine dark wine color and the roots part has nice wine red under tones. Doesn’t look weird at all. I may retouch the roots sooner than I thought so it can be as vibrant aas the other part of my hair. Oh and btw, when I was applying the hair dye I was stained all over my neck ears and hairline but after washing with conditioner it all faded aaway the very first try. Not bad and I’m a really pale person so I was expecting it to stay on my skin, but it came off with no hesitation. Thank you all for the great service and it arrived in 4 days and I live in texas.

This color is not messing around! I thought it would just look a bit darker than Pure Henna (which gives my dark brown hair sort of a reddish shine) but it has definite purple/burgundy tones. Very much red-wine-y. Not what I was expecting exactly, but it’s pretty! Applies and rinses just like the other colors I’ve used (which is to say, easily and slowly, respectively, haha) but I do think it stained my skin a bit more than the Pure Henna or Natural Black did – probably because of the red clay? It’s not too bad though, most of it has washed off by the second shower.
I will say that it looks much less natural than the Pure Henna did, so if that’s a concern for you, you might want to try a different color. I don’t mind that about it, though.

I ordered this color about a month ago with the hopes that I had FINALLY found a natural way to satisfy my compulsion to change my hair color from time to time. I’m very health conscious, and try to avoid the unnatural and chemical-ridden. Hair dye, however, was the last guilty chemical indulgence I was hanging onto. About a year ago I decided my hair needed a break, so I dyed it the closest shade to my natural brown as I could (though my black underneath stayed black, of course) and fought the urge to dye it again for awhile. When summer came around I broke down and did a few golden blonde highlights to try to curb my desire for change. When I heard about Henna Color Lab through a social networking site, and saw the gorgeous ruby red I had been lusting after, I couldn’t help but try it. In my teen years I had often dyed my hair a shade of red-brown, as close to red as my parents would allow, but eventually I got tired of having to redo the color every few months because as so many well know, red chemical dyes inevitably fade to a weird orange or somewhere thereabouts.
The dye absolutely did the trick! My brown became the deep wine, my highlights fiery red, and the black underneath has a lovely red sheen. I am very satisfied. Though I will say the highlights did fade to more of a coppery orange, but I am sure that is partly due to the previous bleaching. I plan to purchase another pack of this color in the hopes that it will further deepen the color and remove the coppery tones!
I highly recommend if you have longer hair to start at the top and twist/pile it on top of your head as you go. I split mine into five sections (top, each side, and two in the back), it makes it a lot easier. I also left mine over night, because I wanted to take full advantage of the conditioning and get the deepest color possible. Though I will likely not leave it overnight next time.
And, as a vegan I was thrilled that this product was vegan and cruelty free!
Overall, I am extremely satisfied and will definitely be a loyal customer for a long time indeed.

This is a fantastic product and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I had been using chemical dye to cover my grey (about 10-15% and all at my front hairline and temples) and as I grew my hair I didn’t want the damage. My hair is naturally red and had been getting darker over time (except for the grey, of course) and I figured the Wine Red would be fun – and if it was a bust I could always use the Auburn or Copper Brown to temper it. The Wine Red is a gorgeous, lush color and is perfect for me; my color came out very similar to the model’s, but with more dimensional undertones and some great peek-a-boo high notes where the grey is covered. My hairdresser has been in the biz for 16 years and she said she’s never seen such a great henna job and the color is unparalleled. I really do get people who stop me to remark on how pretty the color is (I would post a pic if I could). I’ve shared HCL’s website with more people than I can remember and won’t go anywhere else for my henna.

THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING HENNA I HAVE EVER USED!!!
Seriously! I could just kiss the wonderful people at HCL.
I have been hennaing for about two years now. I’m a 21 year old girl with natural reds but more towards the auburn side. I started using henna after about a year of research and working around. I had never been a fan of getting my hair dyed, so it seemed too good to be true, that I could be a flaming red vixen without harming my hair — better yet, it makes your hair STRONGER, SHINIER, and it helps seal split ends so your hair can GROW faster!!! It just seemed too magical, being that red hair is the most beautiful and tricky color to obtain/retain.
I finally tried it out when a close friend of mine, who is from morocco, offered me some henna her sister had brought over to the states. I made quite a few mistakes, the biggest one using lemon juice. DONT DO THIS! The first results were a bright, orange brass. It was kind of cool. I continued to henna with all the different, unmarked hennas my friend would give me. The powder always ranged in color from brown to green, and the results always varied in saturation. Also, it was never, ever sifted well and was always gritty and dirty. The henna paste removal process is already a doozy, so the dirt did not make it easier. However, I liked my color, but couldn’t depend on the different mystery hennas I was using. My biggest worry was that some were possibly contaminated with dyes or salts.
I researched on mehandi and the long hair community forums, and all mentioned a few different brands but no one ever agreed on one, and where to get it was unclear. Also, mehandi the website is (no offense) outdated, and not very easy to use when wanting to order henna. I was SHOCKED when I found henna color lab, and that no one had mentioned it.
Ordering from HCL was easy, and they even offered a great bundle. I got the wine red, because I’ve always wanted a TRUE, deep, ruby red with no orange.
That is exactly. What. I. Got.
My color hasnt even finished oxidizing yet and I’m already IN LOVE!!!! my hair is a sparkly, gorgeous ruby. If you are looking for a deep, true red, then this is it. No more orange!!!
It is safe to say that I will be a lifetime customer, and will be spreading to the word to all my red headed friends.
Thank you so much, HCL!!!

I decided I wanted to put some red in my hair, and after a lot of research, settled on Henna ColorLab, and this wine color. Application wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be; it goes faster (for people with really long hair) if you start at the top, twist the locks you’ve henna’d, and pile them in little ‘buns’ on top of your head. Almost no mess that way, too, and it’s super easy to get it in the shower cap when you’re done putting it in. I left it in a couple hours, and when I rinsed it out… wow!
My hair is very dark, so most of it came out a slightly warmer brown. But I’m just starting to go gray, just the occasional strand here and there, and those gray strands were BRIGHT red. It looks amazing, especially in the sunlight. I’m actually looking forward to a few more gray hairs, now.
Like all hair colors, henna does bleed a little bit in the shower, especially in the beginning. I’d advise getting dark colored towels, if you don’t already use them.

I have naturally medium to dark brown hair, with a couple of bleached tips from a dyed streak back when I had a pixie cut. I dyed my hair two days ago, and the color showed up as a deep auburn with almost purplish burgundy undertones on the dark part of my hair! In the sunlight however, it shines a deep red, think melisandre from game of thrones. I really like the undertone color, and on my bleached tips it’s a beautiful almost pomegranate red, and I hope the color builds even more with repeated applications. One thing though, it is super difficult to wash all the henna out of your hair. I rinsed it for about a half an hour and conditioned it after I dyed it, and thought I had gotten most of it out. However, today when I ran a bath, the first bath or shower since I had dyed it, it instantly turned my water a deep orange color. I then proceeded to shower it out for another half an hour and probably still didn’t get it all out. Just be forewarned and don’t use any towels you wouldn’t want stained for a while! Otherwise, my hair is a great color, and super soft and shiny now, so I am pleased and will definitely purchase again.

One word: Awesome color! I have dark brown, curly hair that is a mix of 3b,3c curls, about 5-10% grey with natural red highlights (I come from a family containing a couple of gingers). So I have been using henna to mask the white and blend with my natural hair color and highlights for over 3 years. I have just dealt with how long I had to leave regular BAQ henna in (7+ hours) to get my little, stubborn white/gray hairs to take the dye, which would oxidize to a very noticeable red/orange color. This henna mix, on the other hand, turned my white/gray hairs to a beautiful, rich red color that I have been craving in a little over 2 hours! (I accidentally took a 2.5 hour nap after applying the dye.)
I love it! I have gotten so many compliments on my hair, plus it almost matches my ginger sibling’s natural red hair color!
Instead of mixing the henna with water, I too used a can of coconut milk and then water to achieve the texture as specified in the instructions. This henna mix did wonders to my hair texture and I really think that the henna/ clay mix brought my shine back and decreased the frizz factor even further. The red is still rinsing out in the shower for me, as well , but I love the color so much that it really doesn’t bother me. I have ordered some more and am so ecstatic I stumbled upon this little gem of a local business and its wonderful henna mix! Thank you so much Henna Color Lab!

The color is absolutely lovely. I have medium/dark brown hair with a couple of random grays and the color came out a gorgeous dark auburn and the grays are BRIGHT red. My hair also feels much better and is a lot more tame when I allow it to air dry. Before, my hair was highly prone to frizzing and my waves weren’t very defined; after, my hair has body and my waves are beautiful. My only gripe is that the red is still rinsing out in the shower and it’s been over a month since I colored. I do use a good quality, color safe shampoo and I shampoo 2 times per week. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. No more icky chemicals on my head!
HS –
love the color! This henna gave me a gorgeous wine/red undertone on my dark brown/black hair (i’m east Asian). Since my natural hair is very dark, the dye came out pretty subtle, but definitely noticeable. It took a lot of time, but i felt it is worth the time and effort. I’m definitely coming back.
Alaura –
Amazing. Just amazing. I had previously dyed my hair colors that washed out within a matter of weeks, and wanted a red that was going to stay….. it has been eight freaking months.
Yes, the dye does wash out. It looked like someone spilled wine all over my head when I first got it, and now it looks like there’s lava running down my back, but that’s even better. Gives the affect of dying your hair again with literally no work. (And really, after eight months of swimming and showering you don’t think hair dye–especially RED hair dye–wouldn’t have at least washed out a little?)
The only thing was how many packages I had to use. When I dyed my hair, it was halfway down my back. Yeah, I’m aware that I have thick hair. But in the place of two/three packages, I ended up purchasing six and then having to order another when I ran out. I totally recommend this for anyone who wants to dye their hair–and even those who don’t–accept I would advise perhaps ordering a little more than you think you need.
(P.S. now my hair is about to my waist, so I’ll be buying nine more packs)
KSHVIRAGA –
This gave me a fantastic shade of red that looks natural. It applied well and rinsed well when I used the conditioner i had purchased separately. The only thing I would recommend is that you use different gloves.
Stephanie –
I am actually pretty disappointed in this stuff…. after application my hair is more of an orangey brown than a red at all… But it did help my hair not fall out as much in the shower. Usually I’ll have several strands falling out but today there were only 2. I don’t think I’ll be back for this stuff. Sorry. I had such high hopes for the color on the picture… I followed directions to a T and left it in for 2 hours.. ugh!! 🙁

I’ve been dying my hair red for many years and know how annoying the upkeep is and how quickly red will fade. I quit using box color a couple years ago and started going to the salon. Not only was I tired of the stylists never quite getting the color right, but I was tired of how expensive it was. So I decided to give this a try. I used the Henna Hair treatment first, which according to my mom and sister made my hair feel SUPER soft and thick. I used Henna Color Lab’s minty mix trial size shampoo – I hate that, it makes my hair feel sticky. I waited a week as per instructions to dye my hair. To me, dying it was easy enough because I had my sister help. I kept it on for about 2 hours. Rinsing it out was the hard part. It took a good 20 minutes to rinse it all out. After hopping out of the shower and letting my hair air dry, I can’t say that I’m disappointed with the color, but I can’t say I love it, either. It pretty much just tinted my hair a slight red color. I have dark brown hair and haven’t dyed my hair in over 6 months. Also, my hair tangles SUPER easy now, brushing it is a pain. The gloves that come with the henna dye are completely useless. All in all, I’m not sure if I will try this out again.
Linda –
I love this color! I tried the Pure Henna but I would say that color looked more “orangey-copper” on my black hair. I didn’t like the orangey hue on my hair.
The wine red henna actually looks red. It gives my hair that red tinge and my gray hairs look like red highlights.
I leave it on my hair overnight.
If you want a true red, go with this color. It is subtle on dark hair, but it is noticeable. You will especially see it shine bright in daylight.
Love it!
Enjoy!

This overall experience left me with a good first impression of henna.
Like everyone else, I had been doing research on it and decided to just give it a shot. I was pleased that the henna came with gloves and a shower cap, although the cap was a bit thin.
Instead of water, I mixed the henna with coconut milk, which seemed to help with the overall removal and prevented the “hardening” I’ve that henna can cause to your hair.
I have African 3c/4a curls with some parts of my hair lightened with peroxide. The color turned out well on the lightened parts of my hair and it even left a reddish-purple sheen on the black parts.
This was my first time dyeing and now that I know that henna is good for you hair, I’ll try gladly try more products from this site!

this product was exactly what i had hoped for.
i have used a few other henna brands before, including henna blocks from lush as well as boxed henna from health food stores. the henna that i received from henna color lab was hands down the best quality in comparison.
i have only ordered from this site once and so far have only used the “wine red” and two days later i am absolutely loving it.
i was nervous that the color may turn out to be more orange than red as i have had this experience with other brands of henna and i ended up with more of a ronald mcdonald look than i had anticipated, but the color was very close to what is shown in the sample photos and i was delighted.
my hair was a mousy brown and now it’s a fabulous deep red 🙂

I stopped using commercial hair dyes because I had a weird reaction–my tongue went numb when my hair got wet. Strange, but true. I let my hair grow out and found to my surprise, it was completely gray. I rocked that for a while before my sister convinced me I needed to color again. A colleague had gorgeous red hair and I asked what she used–henna. Gave a different brand of henna a try; after the first few days of traffic cone orange, it settled into an Lucielle Ball light red. It was better than the gray, but it wasn’t the deep rich red I’d hoped for.
I found the Henna Color Lab Wine Red henna quite by accident. I absolutely LOVE the color, and get lots of compliments…some from creepy old men who stalk me in the store to comment on my sassy shade, but hey.
My only complaint about this shade–I haven’t tried others, so it may happen with them as well–is that the color rubs off on clothes, skin, and linens for weeks., no matter how many times I wash or condition. When I schvitz during spin class, it looks like I’ve been hit with a bucket of rusty water. I can no longer wear light blouses if I expect even one drop of head sweat. No tongue numbness though!
Despite the color fallout, I am back to order more–the quality and color is just that good.

Love it! I used to use henna some 20 years ago but got lazy and went with chemicals instead. After getting sick of the smells & having an itchy scalp, I stumbled across Henna Color Lab and I couldn’t be any happier. No longer just one choice of henna but an awesome variety to chose from. I went with wine red which, even on my previously dyed hair, came out phenomenal. Applying the thick paste took about 20 minutes and I left it on for 2 hours for good measure. My hair is about mid-back length and I’m glad I ordered two packages because I used every single bit. Totally appreciated the tip of using conditioner because rinsing took a bit of time in the shower so halfway through, I used a bit of conditioner which made rinsing out the remaining paste so much easier.
My hair looks healthy, shiny and looks awesome! I’ll definitely be back for more. So happy to have finally found a natural hair color that doesn’t make my hair orange but is a true red.
Only very minor niggle: the gloves were all but useless and rolled up thus staining my left thumb but it’s fading now after 18 hours. So I’m going to use my own gloves going forward but the cap was definitely good to have.

I did A LOT of research before I bought some henna. I have been dyeing my hair some shade of red since i was a sophomore, so it is a safe assumption that I love being a redhead. Well, the last time I found what I thought was the perfect box color for the vibrant red I wanting, it ended up turning my already red hair BLACK. I wasn’t a happy camper to say the least. So after all of my research showing me that there wasn’t much of an option for my black hair if I was wanting red, I started to give up. I accidentally came across this site and was skeptical about purchasing it. I’m glad i did, because it turned out the most insane and vibrant shade of red, especially in the sun. And of course, my hair feels amazing! You have a new customer for life!

I had never used henna before and had long brown hair with gold highlights and some grays here and there. I wanted to start using something natural, vegan, and not tested on animals. I also wanted to achieve a really pretty dark red color that still allowed my highlights to still shine through. That is exactly what I got with this red wine henna. I used almost 2 packs and had my girlfriend apply it so I would not miss any spots. The brown parts of my hair became a rich deep red just like red wine. My highlights became a bright copper red with slight gold undertones. My grays became bright shimmery red and look like intentional highlights. The transition of color is great and in the sun it looks amazing. Someone told me it reminds them of a sunset! All I know is I’m
more happy with the outcome and I have had more compliments on my hair than ever before for a fraction of the cost. No one believes I did not get it professionally done. The best part is how healthy and vibrant my hair itself is. I’m a Henna Color Lab convert for life 🙂

The color is gorgeous. I have long hair that goes about 2in and a half above my waist when I have it on my back and thought I would need 2 packs – however, after carefully separating my hair and making sure I have covered everything, I ended up throwing away about a pack of mixture. I would have been just fine with one pack. I have been coloring my hair at home for over 20 years now, and have tried many products – I do not find the process of using henna more grueling than others ( when you have long hair like I do any product you apply takes time and patience ), the only thing different is how long you keep the mixture on. I am very happy with my results, and will buy more for future use.

Overall this product is one of the best I’ve used of henna. I liked that you could mix and wear in a matter of minutes without the long wait of 12 – 24+ hours like you do with some others I’ve tried. Though understand not knocking either henna just for a newbie who’s trying to go natural/ organic the first time this stuff ROCKS!! Considering that when I did my hair (shoulder length, naturally medium/dark brown with about 4 inches of bleached previously and hennaed hair) took the color so well that its a very pretty wine red with an ombre’ look of reds on the bleached areas, I also did my husband and let me say WOW on his hair. (Natural Black with some white/grey hairs) Took the color so purely that I myself was in shock that it is so VIBRANT in his hair its a deep black cherry color with flecks of fire engine red on the greys/whites. In my opinion this earned 5 stars plus considering my husband sat with the henna for almost 3 hours without complaining, I will definitely be a returning customer for henna here on Henna Color Labs. 2 THUMBS WAY, WAY UP GUYS!! Keep ROCKING!!
Side Note:
the processing cap was a nice bonus to have but the gloves lacked so I just used a pair I had from previous dye jobs. Otherwise awesome product.

I went natural last summer while pregnant, taking the plunge and getting the big chop. My hair has grown to my shoulders now, and I wanted to find a natural way to color my hair as I am now nursing. I wanted a new look, something a little different. My hair is dark, dark brown nearly black and this henna hair dye worked perfectly with my hair. The color is visible, vibrant, and beautiful even on my dark hair. I love catching glimpses of color under the lights. I love the way the henna made my hair smell and feel, it’s incredibly soft. The process itself is a little time consuming, but the results are well worth it.

This henna is the best that I have used…ever! I followed the directions and left it on for about an hour and a half. I have used henna before so I knew it would be rather messy, I put towels on EVERYTHING and therefore my bathroom is stainless. Overall, I really, really like the color. It seems to have dried my hair out a bit, but that may be due to my use of clarifying shampoo before I applied the henna. Either way, you have a lifetime customer here!

Hm, now how can I possibly put this….
Coolbeans! That’s how great this hair dye is. Very awesome. 😉 Even tho I ordered this about 4 weeks ago, I had to wait for my recent dye to grow out which was a chemical dye even tho the color on that was pretty nice. But…. I finally got to use this one. yay!
I have been recently switching to all natural and cruelty-free stuff, and beginning to go vegan which is such a healthful way and shows compassion completely to animals (anything for them!), and I think it kind of starting with looking for an organic hair dye. Yep, i’ve been doing extensive research. And this was a great start. I even went and got organic shampoo, which was a great pre-wash before using this dye.
And this was really a long process! But definitely worth it all the way. Kept the color in for about 2 1/2 hours because I really wanted a nice auburn-red color and it really made my natural red highlights stand out a lot! Beautiful! 😀 I was probably in the bathroom for an hour putting the dye in (which was such a fun experience.) It may be a rigorously long process, but that’s what it’s all about. To go with and enjoy it. And NO burning feeling and stripping and headaches after using the chemical hair dye that I used before. That was only the second time I used a chemical box dye. And, the more massaging the paste dye is going into the hair, the more the color really stands out. I wish I could put up a picture, because the color is very pretty. It’s just what I wanted my hair to look like. Not too dark, not too red. And, in the light in the house and the sunshine— it is stunning! Gotta love, love, love nature! ♥ I will definitelt buy this again and absoultely recommend it, too. Thanks so much and keep up the great work staying organic! 😀

I am beyond thrilled. I have to say I was fearful to try something new. I have VERY dark hair almost black naturally. I have used box colors a few years ago but just when I wanted to try something new. I went to a Paul Mitchell salon maybe 8 months ago and had them dye my hair a dark red. It was alright but not what I was hoping for. I had been wanting to dye my hair again. But I have transitioned my life over the past year and a half to using only natural products on my body and in my house and for my animals. I am very much into animal rights and having a 100% cruelty free product is incredibly important to me. I am trying to get as natural as possible. So I if I was going to change my hair color it had to meet all that criteria. I stumbled upon this site while googling for a product of that nature. I decided to order Wine Red Henna. I was so worried that my 8 months of regrowth and the chemical dye on the rest of my hair would not match.
I have hair to the middle of my back and it is my only true vanity. I did not want to damage it or have to cut it off.
Now, the process itself was daunting as another reviewer said. I forgot to add hot water and instead added cold. I began freaking out. I also didn’t want it too runny so I thought I would make it thick. It was like putting mud on my hair and I stood there wide eyed thinking “this cannot be right. I have royally messed up”. I kept it on for 2 hours. I never thought I would rinse it out, but it all came out in about 20 minutes. It felt so surprisingly healthy right away. I blow dried it as the instructions said.
As I dried it I could see the gorgeous red shining through. It is vibrant and absolutely beautiful. I cannot stop looking at it. I have never had an experience like this in any salon. I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT.
I will DEFINITELY buy this product over and over. I am 29 and have a few gray hairs already and it covered those in one application. I used two packets.
If you want incredible amazing hair that has a gorgeous color you can’t get anywhere else use this product. I am sure all the other colors are great as well. That is how sold I am on this. I wish I could upload a picture.
So my words to a new buyer: buy this, don’t freak out, do the best you can, don’t over think it or worry. 🙂
Thank you Henna Color Lab for a product that I am so over the top happy exists on ALL levels of your company. I am so truly thankful places like you exist.

This was my first henna hair dye experience. I was looking to dye my hair but did not want to use chemical dye because I have dry hair and in the past, chemical dyes just made it worse. So I turned to henna.
The process was grueling I must say. Really kind of annoying. And it still hasn’t rinsed completely out of my hair (after 4+ washes)…..BUT! I LOVE the color. My hair was dark brown so it made it a sort of dark auburn color in normal light, but in the sun, it’s a brilliant wine red. Just like the title. Also, it shines beautifully. I love that it conditioned my hair as it dyed it.
In terms of the color and the quality of the product, easy 5 stars….but do NOT expect an easy application process…ESPECIALLY if you have curly hair (me).
Boonanah Jones –
It didn’t damage my hair… But if you’re blonde, your hair won’t look like the picture, it’ll be the color of fire.
Lindsay –
I had been previously dying my hair red (like, RED red) for about a year. I was looking for a product that wasn’t going to be as damaging as store bought dyes while still giving me vivid color.
I would say that my results were atypical only due to my combination of black roots, red middle and blondish ends….but I love it! Color was true to the description plus I got an orange ombre/highlight effect from my bleached ends 🙂
While dying hair with henna does take a lot more time than typical hair dye, I enjoyed the experience! But seriously, TAKE YOUR TIME! Take the time to separate your hair into sections, ensure even coating and wipe off any dye that gets on your face, ears etc. It’s worth it!
To rinse, I put my head, upside down, under my bathtub faucet first before I tried to shower; I was able to get most of what was on the back of my head out that way, making the showering much easier!
I’m very happy with my results and will definitely order from here again!
